    Trying to visualize the shot.

    51 feet out and 18 feet up, quartering to(unsure of angle) and aiming in front of front shoulder with 3/4 arrow penetration.

    Somewhat flat on the trajectory, roughly up 1/3 of shot distance, and say 20-21" penetration. Unless you can shoot between both lungs and miss arteries/heart has to be at least one lung and elongated puncture or worse. Not sure which way it was quartered either.

    Has to be a dead deer, right?

    I've done this shot a couple times. Not always the best because it's easy to be a 1 lung shot. But you usually hit the heart, so dead deer. The problem I see for him might be only 1 hole up high and no exit. So it runs off fast and dies fast, but no chance to get much blood on ground to follow. Him being color blind, this could be tough.

    @Holt outlined my worries to a T, color blind here as well. He’s gonna need to take his time, but man the description of the shot sounds dead for sure!
