This is last weekend coming up for me. Hoping to be out both days. I gotta get something! Need even a small buck for contest, and definitely need one more for freezer

Went out this afternoon. Watched 6 does feed thru clover field and turn into the woods 10 yards before I had a shot. Would have have helped my freezer, but not my team. Never even saw a buck. Not even on the way home! I'll be back out tomorrow. Fingers crossed

Went to different spot. Had 6 does in front of me at 25 yards. Just settled in on big doe with tracking collar on her, started to squeeze trigger on crossbow, AND THEY ALL BOLTED for some reason!! None of them even looked at me. Wind in my face. No idea what caused them to bolt, but really pissed me off. Season is over for me. Sorry guys. I guess I should have taken that "weird" buck when I had the chance

Got in done this weekend on some public (Big Branch NWR) by the house. I haven't hunted this piece as much as I've wanted to. The area is very marshy with some pine savannah and small oak /palmetto ridges. I got in the tree at noon on Sunday. Didn't see a thing until 5:20 when this spike was coming down the trail straight to me. He got right to my tree where he was going to pass and give me a 6 yard shot. Instead he went directly away from me and finally turned broadside at 30 yards. I let the arrow fly and immediately knew it was a less than perfect shot. It was 30 min to dark so I sat there until then, climbed down and snuck out.

Monday around lunch time (was 30* over night) I went out with the pup. He's not deer trained but I figured his nose wouldn't hurt. As I was heading to the point of impact, he locked onto a scent. We started looking around and found the deer 10 yards from where the dog stopped. He only went 70 yards.

I have killed some absolute brutes in the midwest and this deer had me shook up just like those. I am holding out for better deer from now on but I was determined to get a kill under my belt out here. 15 min from parking lot to my driveway.

I shed hunt a lot too. Don’t have a lot of places to go but I usually do alright. Got to check cameras this week to see if any are dropping yet. Still kind of early but i know some are starting to drop

I'm 99% public when it comes to sheds personally. I usually walk about 35-45 miles a year.
