Well ladies and gents and heathens and misfits. I saw 2 small bucks and a doe tonight. Too far out to get excited about. I think my 21-22 season is over. Gave her hell trying to drop one last deer but i think i will call it. Put 2 bucks and a doe down. One doe hit and unrecovered. Saw some good chasing action. Scraping, rubbing, scrapping. It literally breaks my heart that its over. Time to pick up the pieces, lick the wounds, reflect on and analyze mistakes, laugh at the bad luck, and be humbled by the nature that we were blessed enough to spend the last 4 months as visitors. God is great beer is good and you all are awesome. Cheers to a hell of a season.
Ok so im like a crack head i guess. When i say im done i really dont mean it. So here we are. 5mi from the house. This will be the last sunset of the year.
I am hopefully going to Jersey one last time on Thursday for a 4 day stint. I missed my trip two weeks ago because my parents were sick and didnt want anyone visiting. Was probably a good thing, in the end, cause I came down with a 101 fever and Covid that Friday. Luckily for me, the bad symptoms and fevers moved through in just 3 days, though all my kids ended up with it too. So the last 10 days or so have been a wash out. The only residual side effect I have now is that I can't get out of my own way and occasionally headaches. It's a weird virus, that's for sure. Hope everyone is doing well. Hope to post some pics from a tree later this week. I'll be shooting just about anything that walks by when I'm on public and still looking for a Buck on the farm.
I didn’t see a deer but I sure heard them across the creek and I know that one was a buck. That steady crunch crunch, crunch crunch crunch walk really gets your heart racing. I couldn’t see him though. It was getting late and he was across the creek in thick cover. I just listened to him walk away. I’ve never sat this spot before so I’ll sit the same tree in the morning and then adjust. Crossing that creek will be no joke though. I’ll have to cross it on a tree that fell over. It’s a big creek. Im not sure how I’d get a deer across if I killed one over there, but I’d sure figure it out. Oh, I did get blown at climbing down at dark. Figures.
I got set up at 5:45. First light is at 6:41. I’m not a fan of morning sits on a full moon but here I am.
I picked the wrong tree covering the wrong crossing. Two bucks crossed the creek in the first pic at 80 yards about a half hour ago and walked towards the cedars on the right of the second pic. The first buck was a legal shooter here but the second buck was a good one. Maybe 125”-130”.
Back up for the afternoon sit. I moved 55 yards west. Should be a good location if the deer move through here.
