So the does came down the ridge from me. I thought they looked small but one was definitely larger then other. So decided to take her if I get a chance. They are feeding in a ravine below me and I miss judge the distance and saw my arrow go under her. Well she exploded from the shot and takes off down the ravine. So here is were it gets crazy and is the only thing I can think that happen. She is running fine, then jumps a log at the bottom. She lands on other side and takes a couple bounds and collapsed. She is flopping around and can't get up. I'm thinking to myself, what just happened, I know I missed. She makes it to her feet but can't put and weight on her back leg. She limps back towards me for about 20 minutes. She does a large circle and stays about 50 yards out. She actually laid down for awhile. The other doe came up and joined her. I decided to try and get down to try and put a stalk on her, but the second I hit the ground she bolted. Never to be seen again. Checked arrow and absolutely nothing on arrow and a puff ball of hair at shot site, which is what I saw from the stand. I actually think she broke her leg while running away. I have never seen anything like it before. Have any of you guys experienced anything like this before? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
@Holt I never heard or seen anything like that ever. You need to start a hunting journal and you could publish it in a mini series with all your wild hunting experiences!
I actually thought of doing a journal on the fourm, just so I could keep track of my storys. But then I will probably curse myself and not shoot anything next year, that would be my luck. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Congrats suncrest! Nice doe! Sorry for the miss Holt. Never heard of that before but I guess it could happen. Was it only one leg she was favoring? If both back legs maybe she pinched a nerve or something in her back when she reacted to the shot. Another weird story to add to your collection lol
Just her right rear leg. She was having a hard time holding her self up and walking with just her left rear leg. Very strange and felt bad for her. I've seen plenty of 3 legged deer before doing just find in the wild, hopefully she makes it.
11 hrs of a crap filled night of work erased with a 1 hr scout after work. Been driving by this place for years and just noticed this crazy thicket not 50 yds off the main road. Found one buck bed. Had a suspicion one was using it from the pics I got from 500 yds away.
Au Contraire! I know someone who at least found their buck waaaay later in the bed they already searched and it was one cool looking beast of a buck. Dont beat yourself up. Especially this late in the season.
Was gonna go back out tonight, buttt went out to lunch and had some beers. Came home, threw logs on fire and took a nap in the recliner. Nice lazy Saturday!
