Son and friend were out on Loon Lake Ice fishingChristmas eve morning. Caught a bunch of perch they put back because he said they smelled Funky. It's a small lake packed with private homes along shores.
Debating going out Wed. morning. Last day of "quarantine" and go back to work Thursday for 5 hours so could do an afternoon sit then. Property should be well rested for my next sit. Regardless will be going Friday to get my 4 wheeler, chance of snow possibly this weekend and need to get it out of the weather. Don't need mice moving into it. Friday will be last sit of the year if I go.....
That may be it for me this season. With is having surgery on her ACL this week so it will keep me busy. Season ends on the 1st for me here anyway. Good luck if your still grinding till the end!
Grace and I are in a WMA that we have never hunted. Very thick. We are hunting on the ground. Found some 20yd openings with deer trails running through them. This section of woods is sandwiched between two ag fields. Its only 40ac. Cant wait to get back in here with a stand when I come back by myself.
Work called so no going out tomorrow. Can use the hours anyway, next 2 paychecks are going to sting a bit.
Beautiful day out here. 48 degrees, wet ground, but no rain falling. Very comfortable. Light west wind. Im gonna have to do some serious exploration here for next season.
This may help a few of you who saddle hunt. I hunted this year with my military day pack. I worked by keeping the platform inside the pack and can put sticks on both sides. I bought this smaller pack for 30 bucks off amazon. Holds the trophyline edp platform very well on the outside. Also has straps on both sides to attach sticks. Leaves me more room in the pack and compartments for gear. I think it will work very well with being compact and saddle hunting public land. Thought I would share for those looking for a gear setup. Went out in a.m. for a short hunt. I had s UPS pick up scheduled. ,which never arrived until 2 pm. So I immediately headed out for an afternoon hunt. BTW nothing in morning, though heard lots of geese. I get 60 yrds from stand and there goes 5 tails past stand into gully ,up over other side to head down hill. Hhhmmmmm said "blank it" turned around to come home. Get here and hubby pulls in...he's been sick all day long and is miserable. No fever, no cough, no sinus run...but turkey trots big time...poor guy.
Well im needing some treestand therapy. The man who was with me when i shot my first deer was my grandpa. He passed away peacefully in his sleep last night. He was a U.S. Marine and career Illinois State Trooper. He loved the flag, his country, and to help anyone in need. A true hero to me. Luckily the family got to visit him one last time day after Christmas. For a few moments i really did see a spark in his eye. My son was very intrigued with him and kept wanting on his lap. Haha. R.I.P. Grandpa. Man i cant wait to get in a tree.
