Its crazy how what you think happened …. Well, didn’t. I thought i hit high front. Like igh behind shoulder praying for high lungs and hit offside shoulder which stopped arrow but actually i hit back and arrow destroyed liver and back of one lung. Think it hit offside leg. Somehow not one bit of guts or intestines got hit. He had to have spun hard at the shot which is totally believable since i had to “meh” to stop him and it was 35yd shot. My bow is about 285 fps so plenty of time for him to spin. I remember hearing the arrow almost as if in slow mo.
Thanks man. Im super pumped and so happy. I mentioned this in another thread but ive been in about a 5 or 6 year dry spell for a buck like this. He isnt my personal best but he sure feels like it. I got caught up in passing alot of 130-150” deer cause i thought i would just hold out for a booner. Yea, easier said than done. I missed alot of opportunities and then it was like i couldnt even get a shot off at a 130. They would zig when shoulda zagged or wind would swirl outta nowhere. It was almost comical the bad luck ive had. I had a close encounter with another huge buck on sunday and a couple branches saved him. I remember clicking snooze on my 3:00am alarm yesterday and almost saying screw it. Then i told myself that this dryspell will never end if i sleep in. Bam!
Maybe they screwed up my test or test result. About 4 days ago that tightness in my bronchial area subsided. 6 weeks of that tightness. Now im feeling somewhat normal.
Well, VT seasons ended December 15. Guess I have something to look foward to next year. Guess I also need to ask for an early winter. Actually, I'll be putting a stand or two back up on top of the hill. Tough walk but looks like it will be worth it.
I’m set and waiting on daylight. It sure feels better this morning than it did yesterday. It’s not raining and I’m dressed appropriately, Im hoping the deer move a little later on this full moon morning because if the heavy cloud cover.
I should be small game hunting. Turkey roosted 14 yrds away, rabbits 43 yrds , squirrel everywhere. The 4 came back in to spook right where I took the shot on him the other day. Don't tell me they don't remember.
For the past hour I’ve been watching a longbeard that flew down 50 yards away. He just wouldn’t leave. Then his companion flew down. I had no idea he was there. Squirrels are everywhere here too but no deer are moving. I don’t really care for hunting the full moon.
I'm back at the camper. Once again I didn't see a single deer. I'm going to hunt this afternoon and if I don't see anything I'm going to bring my stand out and then hook up and go home in the morning. I'm pretty worn out after this past week of hunting.
We didn't have many until I started managing the dog wood, honey suckle, Autumn olive bushes and building the brush pile fences. Now we have a lot of them. This morning's rabbits were hanging out under my hazelnut bushes. Everyone says kill all those. I don't, I manage them when they stray to areas I don't want them. This also allows me to know the best places to kick rabbits up. After deer season I'lll be sitting that area with the 22. I placed a 2x4 in the center and carbon driveway rods at each corner of the hub blind to keep a collapse from happening with snow. It had quite a layer of ice on it this morning
Oh I know. I hunted hard Sunday through Wednesday, killed, dragged, skinned and quartered three does, drove home Thursday and processed all three, drove back to Kentucky and have been hunting hard since I got back. I’m ready for a day or two off. Still, I’m all set up for the PM sit. You can call me a lot of things but quitter isn’t one of them.
