Likely a short rifle sit this morning. Sprinkling already, rain coming midday. Sitting in a smallish 50ac parcel...i haven't seen any hunters at this year, but have seen deer within a short distance.
No matter the score still an awesome trophy!!! Sent from my SM-N986U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Oh for sure. I really dont get hung up on score but i dont mind having the conversation if one inquires. For me i like to be accurate as i can for identification purposes when talking with fellow hunters who hunt same areas. If we are both talking about a 10 pointer we saw and i say “he was about a 140” and my buddy says “no this one was huge 170+” then we know we have not only one but two good bucks .
I’m set up for the rest of the day. I woke up this morning to rain beating the roof of the camper. I checked the weather and it was calling for rain all day so I went back to sleep. They’re still calling for light rain/drizzle off and on all day, but the rain stopped for a while so I showered and scrambled to get on stand. I’m under my tree umbrella and I’m here until dark, about 7 1/2 hours worth.
Im wanting to try “stale crackers” venison burger recipe. Hes a cajun you tube cook. Check him out pretty entertaining as well. Its straight ground venison with bread and some other stuff mixed in.
10lbs ground venison, 3-12oz shredded sharp cheddar, 2-3lbs bacon. Grind it all together. Venison Bacon Cheddar burger. Super good.
I’m all about that, thanks for the responses, gonna have some people over tonight and don’t want to run em off with dry burger haha
This is the one I saw posted b4 and wanted to try out, thanks Shocker ! I’m def gonna do the cheddar and grind in bacon too Vermont
Say through the first of the rain, walked about to dry / warm... Found why I see deer deer here, neighboring parcel has a pile of bait... I backed up a hill and am posted on the property line to that parcel... Only saw a few squirrels so far. Lots of scratching in here too... Haven't seen /heard turkeys today, I know one of the neighbors has Guinea fowl...kinda wondering what they taste like
3 1/2 hours in now and all I’m seeing so far is squirrels. I have three words to describe this sit so far: Damp, cold and miserable.
Finished processing some deer meat. Kept the neck roast. I cut it off the bone. Kept and packaged the front shoulders whole. Butterflied the back straps into steaks. Ground the rest besides 1 roast. It was a good day. Sent from my SM-G950U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
What a miserable sit. 7 hours and 40 minutes with 6 hours of it hiding under a tree umbrella. I was a little underdressed on top but woefully underdressed from the waist down, especially my feet in the rubber boots. The wind chill is just now at 32 degrees, but that damp north wind in the rain cut right through me. On top of it all I didn’t see a single deer. Oh well, I can’t kill one every sit. I wouldn’t have shot a doe his evening anyway. There was no way I was going to bother with anything but a buck and to be honest I was hoping one didn’t show up. Tomorrow morning will be a different story though.
Oh, one other thing. About 30 minutes after I get set up I realized I needed to move. In the process of climbing down, moving and setting up again I must have bumped the finger I cut yesterday while processing the three deer I brought home about 10 times. After I got set up I peeled my glove off to check it and and it was bleeding. So, my wool glove is bloody. Oh well. The bandage is changed and I’m about to have some Mountain House spaghetti for dinner.
Way to stay after it Littlechief! I was out this morning but wasn’t able to post anything. It’s been raining here since 900am this morning. It’s supposed stop sometime tonight. I’ll be back out tomorrow morning with the crossbow and my folding chair from some spot on the ground.
