Im with ya. I guess ill go back to work for awhile. I went to a highly anticipated place today with a couple buddies and we didnt see much for big bucks. I saw one doe, a coyote, tons of ducks and geese, turkeys. So there was good scenery just not the scenery i was after… ugh. Wind and sun burnt face. Need a recharge.

I’m kinda needing a change of pace too. I’ll go back to work for a week then take some more time off.

Today was the last day for whitetail at my property, it closes this coming week. Pulled all my stuff out for winter. We held out this year for mature bucks only, did not get an opportunity at one.
Next weekend a late muzzleloader season for cow/spike elk opens, plan to get in a Friday afternoon hunt and Saturday hunt for them. It’d be great to put an elk in the freezer.
Then there’s a late archery only whitetail season for a couple of weeks after that, I will probably get in a couple hunts there. Big migration movement, lots of fun if you find the right spot.
I have about 3 more weekends of hunting left to enjoy being out there trying. Always a bit sad when it comes to the end. It’s a long wait to Spring turkey and bear.

Go back to work for 3 days this week, then second shotgun season kicks in Thursday thru Sunday.

If alone Thursday I'll take the bow, if one or two others I'll take both bow and .44mag. If it's a full house it'll be gun only and make chit up as I go

Bad thing is, I knew I should been here Nov 1,2,3,n 4.
Cams show year in year out those are the best dates to catch (what few big/old bucks) we have here being vulnerable.
I've got quite a few stands spread out over my 33 acres of Heaven but have been thinking lately next year I may try to get welded up some big homemade per my design ladderstands and set them real close to the river so I can sit longer,be comfortable and have very few get downwind.
I'm SUPER ANALabout my scent control and really never get busted but it would be nice not to fret about EVERY single time.
I constantly sit in stands thinking what I could do "better":ninja:
But really, I always reminise on years past and my best time for bigger bucks were usually spur of the moments (hang n hunts)
But those days are behind me. Plus, although I have over 1000 acres of private land to hunt, I'm kinda digging just hunting my own.

Motivation. Slim chance each hunt but the only way to have a shot is to roll the dice and hunt.

VS there’s still plenty of time. My BIL shot this last evening in Ohio. Came in fast and he thought it was the big 9 we had pictures of. Obviously it wasn’t but still a good 3.5 year old. IMG_2373.JPG IMG_2374.JPG

OK I'm older and tired....sitting here listening to the plow go up and down the hill with my coffee in hand. Canned deer quarts washed dried and ready to put on shelf. BTW, This batch looks great! I also have the whole pressure dialed in perfect.Bones go in for bone broth next.
Most gift shopping done and delivered. Just need to clean and put up tree get out lights for a mid week warm up and run errands. Then deer will be settled from weekend and I now know most have tagged. Even the ones that have stayed safe will eventually be up because they have fewer doe and more snow. Their searches will expand. Passing those younger buck may still pan out. Two buck tags and two doe left cold weather to keep me from worrying about deer processing hang over my head with Christmas eve on the way.
To be honest this is the least I've ever hunted, even when kids were home.Being given deer meat took the urgency away. Watching great bucks skirt me just out of range too many times didn't help. I still have till Jan 1
    Good luck today guys

Thats my plan im just a little hesitant to get sucked back into work cause i know theyre going to try to get me to commit to some year end projects. I tell them every year not to expect much of me form Oct. - Feb. and every year they grasp for straws

Just got caught up from the weekend! Took some time off and spent it with the family, I did get out for our rifle opener Saturday morning and shot this giant doe at 7am, she was absolutely massive! Congrats to all the killers from the weekend and goodluck to those out there! IMG_4933.JPG IMG_4935.JPG picture of my size 13 lacrosse boots next to her head for size reference!

Gonna get dressed for the 400th time this year and sit for a bit.
Getting to be a grind. Beginning to hate big buck hunting!

Gun season went out yesterday here in Indiana. This Friday ML season opens. I got a special deer I want to see make it through the season!

I have a piebald running the lease and sure hope she gets bred and drops a a couple of twin bucks for me to watch grow up!
