I'm out. About 4:00 had a muzzle loader hunter walk by me at 40 yards. Then right at dark the sky opened up and lighting. I stripped down my tree as fast as I could and soon as I put my foot on the ground, a deer started blowing at me. Never saw a deer all day. I ran out as fast as I could and still got soaked. Other wise a good day! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Yeah that storm just hit us about 1/2 hour ago. Doozy!! Would not have wanted to be out in that!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
passed on a spike at 8 yards - he was sniffin my tracks up to the ladder and looked up at me but never spooked. He milled around for a bit before a doe and her fawn came out in the beans. all came out with about 30 min left of legal shooting.
Dipping into the upper 30's tonight for the first time this season. Thus weekend isn't looking too bad, keep the 70's away and I'll be happy.... for the most part....
Congrats Brett! And belated to anyone I missed so far. I've been busy and other issues going on, I haven't been out at all yet. Hoping to bail for about 10 days starting the 3rd or 4th. Earlier than I usually go, but I'm liking those dates this year. Good luck all!
The spot I was in will get better later. Generally a cruising lane once the bucks start getting in that mode and it won't be long. Sent from my SM-G781V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Update on the buck I shot and hit in the shoulder a few weeks ago. My son in law saw him today and almost got a shot. He said he’s limping pretty good but he was pretty much okay. I’m a little puzzled though. He said that he would recognize those facial features anywhere. He said it was Ghost and that now he’s a 160-ish 8 point. Thing is, two years ago Ghost was an old monster 12 point. Can they go downhill that quickly? I know the buck I shot was a huge 8 point.
short answer, yes. I think it was Peterson's Bowhunting a few years back had a really good story on a buck that lived a well-documented (photographed) 100% natural life in some sort of large preserve that banned hunting. The dropoff took a long time, but once it happened was precipitous. IIRC, the downside was after 8yo. But he lived for 2-3 years after that. They said he took a severe ass-beating from a younger mature buck and was never the same.
This guy was a monster 9 pointer last year. Now look at him. Past his prime for sure. I believe he is at least 7 years old. This is the 3rd year I have got pictures of him. Still a tank! Just not much in the way of head gear......
Well, if what Josh said is accurate then I’m both relieved and absolutely sick at such a botched opportunity at a buck of a lifetime. I knew he was big but I didn’t know he was a borderline Booner 8 point. There was no time to evaluate him.
They sure can. This buck was 6 in this pic. I killed him at 8 and he went downhill (scorewise) quite a bit.
I really don't understand people...what in the absolute hell posesses people to wake up, look across the breakfast table, and say 'ya know Mabel, think I'm gonna go outside and start the chainsaw. It is 5 minutes after sunrise, ya know. Time's a wastin.' Or my favorite after dinner- 'ya know Mabel, I haven't burned through thousands of dollars in ammo lately. Think I'm gonna go outside and hook up the ol' bumpstock and let her rip until sundown.'
Speaking of old bucks, I could make a separate thread, but I trust ya'll and there ain't nobody in the stand this late anyway. Age this guy: Same buck. I am thinking he may be old AF. He's got a sway in his back, and his haunch is noticeably lower than his shoulders. But his shoulders are big. Not impressive tine length or mass but he's got a good spread.
