Next Facebook trending hunting story; "Man regrets shooting B & C Buck with bow because it was first sit of the season." There's a headline I never thought I would see. I wouldn't worry about that, I am sure everyone else around here would have shot that buck.
I sure don't regret shooting my buck. It is kinda a letdown though knowing I won't be chasing any big boys in the rut. I love being in the stand and now after killing that beast on the first day of season, I'll sure miss the chase of hunting in the rut. However, if I had to do it all over again, yes, I'd shoot that buck no matter what day it was, no regrets here.
@Shawn Clark and @fowcbler you guys should consider going out of state if you are done buck hunting where you live.
That's just a stupid idea... The real answer is obvious. Guide me on a hunt during rut. Hell I'll even let you video me and take me out to lunch. In Venatione Veritas
Are you not allowed to shoot another Buck? Or you just know in that area there aren't any more? I am not done Buck hunting where I go. Still got 1 more Buck tag, and I for one know there is actually a larger Buck still out there that I had on camera. We had 3 really solid looking 10 points on camera, I took one of em. Then there is this recurring Big Boy out there my Brother-in-Law calls Old Heavy that is a 12 point (natural 10, 2 abby norms) that he screwed up taking out opening day. I am not expecting any more "big" opportunities, but there is always hope. Next time I am out is mid Rut, and I cant imagine the little 15 acre plot we are on is going to help much with that, even if I try calling them in.
Ohio is a 1 buck state and I don't plan on any out of state hunting. I may go after another doe are two but the deer population around my area is really high and I can take out a doe pretty much anytime I want. I will help my grandsons shoot a buck so it's not like I won't be out there, but as for me, my buck hunting ended the first day of season this year. This is the second time I've taken a nice buck on opening day.
I say if your team doesn't log any points you get rewarded by being allowed to stay on the team for next year, like the champions you are In Venatione Veritas

Nebraska is the best kept secret. Hunting in MO sucks. Sent from my SM-G781V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I have seen lot of big bucks in Nebraska. Haven't killed many though. Last time I went on a 3 day hunt I was in the stand not more than 2 hours and had a 150"+ give me a perfect shot. I didn't shoot because I didn't want to sit in camp for 3 days while the guy I was with hunted. The weather changed and the wind blew 30+ mph for the next 2 days. I didn't see a thing the rest of the trip. That decision is now on my "I WIll NEVER DO THAT AGAIN" list.
I was really just kidding and I'm about 20 miles south of 70. I grew up hunting scrubby little mountain bucks in W North Carolina, so this is a bit different around here to say the least. Sent from my SM-G781V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
