I'm ready to put something in the freezer, I still have some from last year, I double seal everything just to make sure things last a bit longer. I need to fill the freezer this year with all the non-sense supply chain issues. I thought yesterday would be decent since the rain finally quit but the humidity kind of stuck around. It looks like 79* w/60% humidity this afternoon, if I stay close to the creek, I think I'll be in the zone. I'm going to take a couple cameras out with me to set on a few of those "hot spots" I've been seeing.
I let an arrow go this morning. Shot forward and low on a doe. Strange very little blood. I think I caught shoulder because I didn’t get the normal penetration. I made circles at last blood for a while. That was probably the biggest doe I’ve ever seen. I’m sick. If I was a little more patient thinking on it now I probably would have had a better shot. Have to brush it off and get back at it tomorrow and be better. Hate losing deer.
Sorry to hear that. Believe me, I know how it feels. I’m still kind of sick about the buck I hit but didn’t kill. You’re right though. All you can do is get back at it.
I’m looking forward to hearing how it works out for you. I’ll probably check my cameras here at the home place today. I’m sure it’s too early for any big bucks to be cruising here but they will eventually and I want to be ready.

Awesome hunt this evening, I had one lined up, but I was trying to get on the big fat momma doe. I had 6 circling me like sharks all feeding on acorns. Had the 4 point come by earlier and decided to come back to check out the ladies. Well the younger momma doe I had lined up popped her ears up and stared him down, for whatever reason, she didn’t like him and took the entire crowd with her. I’m not upset, I had an awesome night, I love being that close and just watching. That’s the closest I’ve been to deer so far, can’t get much closer than them at the base of the tree. Tomorrow evening if I can get out, it’s blood time, I had some jitters, hopefully they are all out now. It’s go time.
Slow evening hunt for me. Fork horn came in about quitting time. He walked right to mock scrape, sniffed and rubbed his head around in the branches. Wed. afternoon went to opposite side of corn field I hunted Tues. afternoon. Two small bucks came in and worked that scrape on and off for like half an hour. They also were sparring multiple times. Had a camera there switched cards when I left. I think the bucks I saw Tues. were at this scape later on. Sure gives you easy chances at them when there at the scrapes.

Thanks guys! I definitely got lucky with this doe. She was quartering away pretty good at 22 yards. I missed my mark by 2 inches forward but I was lucky enough to catch the front of the onside lung I’m guessing a couple arteries and dead center of her esophagus. I knew the shot was forward so I waited about 45 minutes before slowly following the blood trail. I found her first bed after about 80 yards and backed out. I gave my dad a call for another set of eyes and we went back in about an 1.5 hours later to get back on the trail and found her roughly 100 yards from her first bed. Youth season this weekend in Wis. Took one of my grandsons. To warm bad wind and bad luck. Had a doe come to about 10 yards from the blind where he didn't have a shot. Pretty sure she smelled us and tore out of there blowing. Hopefully better luck this afternoon.
Okay, I’m trying to figure something out about the broadhead damage on the doe I killed last Sunday. First I have to tell on myself a bit. The shot was horrible. It was a 45 yard quartering away shot and on impact she was so contorted trying to get away I couldn’t tell where I hit her. When we found her after a very good blood trail I was surprised. The Grim Reaper Whitetail Special had all but severed her right hind leg about a third of the way up the tibia. What was left of the leg below the wound was hanging by two strips of hide and the tendon. The tibia was shattered. When we found the arrow the broadhead was missing one blade. I found the missing blade buried in the wide joint at the top of the tibia. The big joint at the bottom of the femur had the bulges sliced off by the other two blades. Here’s where I’m stumped. How in the world did the arrow break the tibia 7” below the joint and then blow through the joint in the same leg? I just can’t understand it. Here’s a couple of pics of what the broadhead did to the joint after breaking the tibia. The first pic is the joint at the bottom of the femur. The pieces left and right are the sliced off bone. The second pic is the top of the tibia. If you look close you can see the Grim Reaper blade sticking out kind of back toward the camera.
