Weather sucks here. Deer vacation in two weeks and I anticipate a drop in temps here soon

The weather has kept things pretty slow here. I will be hunting hard this weekend even though it is the youth hunt and usually some of the worst hunting in this area for a week or two after the guns are blasting everything that moves. I've been working a little overtime to save up for cooler weather.

Holy **** Yall, I just ate the most delicious venison burger I’ve ever had thanks to that doe. Normally when I add fat to my venison for grinding I use equal parts beef fat and pork fat, but the piggly wiggly was out of pork fat last week when I processed that doe. Closest thing to pork fat I could find was a bacon “ends and pieces”. They only had one pack left of it so I ended up with a ratio of about 75% beef fat and 25% bacon ends/pieces. Finally got around to making a couple burgulars tonight and son of a b***h that is hands down the best ground venison I have ever tasted. I can’t wait to try making some tacos, spaghetti sauce, and meatloaf with it.

I also have a newfound motivation to take another deer ASAP. I was feeling lazy when I processed that doe so the only thing I made with the trimmings was ground venison and I can’t wait to try using my new bacon fat mix in some summer and breakfast snausages.

Checked my cam where I shot Kickers opening morning. Haven't seen him back yet even though I'm pretty sure he survived that shot. Still seeing the big old Split G2 buck quite often. He'll make a real nice buck for my grandson. Teams are sneaking up on us guys. Get out there and get those doe tags filled. Good luck to everyone hunting this weekend.

Had three does come in with a buck last night, the pop up spooked them a bit. Plenty of does about here, back at it today.

It’s rained here nonstop for about 5 days. Temps still suck but I’m going to give it a try after all this rain stops on Friday. Then I go on deer vacation on the 17th-24th.

I'm here to complain more about our east wind. Hope to fill the doe tag tonight.

I shot my #2 doe on the Navy Base this afternoon, so I can now shoot a buck (130" gross minimum). There is a good buck to doe ratio on Base, so rattling, decoys and grunting can be fairly productive...
