I'm wiped out! Didn't have the energy to think about it all and type it out. I think it's just some relief that it's over. It's been a long 2 1/2 weeks. I just couldn't let it go, I had a feeling I was going to find him.

Thanks man! I wish it would have ended like your buck, but that's not always the case. Feels good to be done.

I gut shot him, no way around it. But every thing I read said dead in 12 hours. On day 3 of tracking I believe I jumped him, still alive. I just keep going back every few days and started searching. I knew he was dead, but I just couldn't find him. I never thought a deer would live for 18 days! I wouldn't believe it if I did just live it.

I hit him directly in the paunch. I hit the last rib and the arrow exited low by back leg, just at the white hair line of belly. I would say the entrance was about 6 -8 inches up from the belly. Just missed liver.

Here's another pic a friend sent to me. This was the exit side, just in front of back leg.[IMG]

That’s actually insane and I can’t even begin to comprehend the odds of finding that deer the day it died almost 3 weeks after you hit it. Like… what?

I’m just going to say it. You’re a liar and that deer was likely poached.

Haha just kidding. What an incredible story. Wonder how many have had that happen to them (especially that long after shot). Not damn many!! I need to know how you knew where to keep tracking him? Did you just grid search every day or every few days? How many acres or how far from the shot was he. We need details.

    Congrats on a slammer!

    Wow! What a great buck!

And it survived 18 days after a gut shot, that’s just impossible to believe.
It is amazing how tough a whitetail can be.

Congratulations on that beast of a buck and way to keep after him.

Hearing that you were still looking for him weeks later says a lot about your ethics as a hunter. Glad you were rewarded with a great story and an even better buck.

First off, congrats on a really awesome deer. But props too you for not giving up. That's a great deer with an even greater story to go along with it. You mentioned in another post that you always had a feeling you would find him. Why did you think that? Also, how far did the deer travel from where you shot him?

Yeah I’d like to know how far that deer ran too. The buck I shot last year but didn’t recover was last seen 800 yards from where I shot him. Sadly the property he ran to, I was denied access to track him more. Still haunts me
