Still waiting patiently for my bow. I had ordered new strings and cables at the end of July through the shop I take it to. took two weeks to get them made and shipped to the shop. Turns out, the spec sheet by Bear had a typo and the string was too short. Stringmaker made another set and shipped them. Now the shop is backed up of course. I called last Friday and could hear the guy yelling in the background to the girl at the counter, "If they don't have a message from me, then their bow is not ready." I'm calling tomorrow and getting my bow on Wednesday, new strings or not. I need to shoot.

Dang that sucks! I know the feeling though!
Seems like everything is getting backed up due to shipping the wrong product/delays on shipping.

I took the rona patient out for some prep work. We popped up a blind and strapped down 3 stands. We pulled 2 camera cards, but I didn't see any buck pics while skimming through. My kill plot was doing well until a tree fell and the leaves drowned out the closest 1/4 of the plot.

First hunt of the season for me. Wind is wrong for my #1 spot but hopefully the acorns over here will make it so the deer don’t mind being around the cows… fingers crossed IMG_3952.JPG

Glad to see you getting your son involved in the outdoors. It won't be long and you'll be taking him hunting.

Welp, Katie (my GF) got her first shot with a bow Sat eve. I was in a stand about 80yds down the clover plot (mistake 1, I should have made her sit with me). I heard her shoot and the buck tear down the mountain. She then had to watch for the next hour as several bigger bucks fed in front of her at 20 yds. I passed 2 bucks shown in the pics. The bigger deer would have got shot had he been in full velvet. Not big enough for my tag without checking that box. (pics in next post)

So.. long story short. Buck fever had taken over Katie at the shot, she was unsure of where / if she had even hit the deer. She was in tears and pretty much a wreck. I was unable to locate the arrow or blood at the scene of the crime. We headed to the house for dinner. We had a storm front moving in @ 0400 and 75deg temps. Had to go look now. I did my due diligence. Spent 2.5 hrs searching the hillside through the nastiest, thickest, chigger infested mess in KY. I never found a drop of blood, hair, deer, arrow, etc. You get the point..... ZERO sign.

DEJECTED and having blown the whole ridge out I called it off about 0100. Covered head to toe in chigger bites and exhausted from the all night search / stress I slept till noon Sunday.

Sunday evening be damned if that same deer didn't come out the same trail at the same time. Not a scratch on him I could see. I venture to guess, piecing together what she can recall at the shot, and what I could hear / see, That somehow she either grazed the buck or otherwise startled him enough to run off like that (like he'd been hit) but never drew blood? Arrow careened off or was buried out of sight?? Questions that will remain unanswered but happy to know the buck was uninjured.

Gotta focus on a bear now for a couple weeks before another KY hunt

T minus 3 sleeps..... Had a large doe with a fawn at the mineral right around 8am this morning... im still torn on what im going to do if they show up... the fawn (and the chance at a nice buck) may be her saving grace.

Even though you only saw squirrels, it had be good to be back out at the start of a season.

Picked up the new toy today. I’ve never shot a crossbow before. Holy crap. They are ridiculous. Kind of like fishing with dynamite. Still planning to use my bow, but I’ll feel better about my kids shooting with this until they are strong enough to use a compound consistently. 4174FBCD-44ED-487D-AAA8-2A8FD7CF0ADE.jpeg

Yep he is built like a tank and if he had full velvet I'd have shot but we have bigger bucks on the farm and opening weekend for me is a velvet hunt unless its just a monster. lol

Sorry to hear bout the GF's buck TJ! I'm sure she will have a shot at redemption soon!

I finally got the call from the bow shop that my bow is ready. I'll be going to pick it up tomorrow, then my first class of the semester starts at 4pm.
