Arrow Backstop

I am moving into a new house this week and Ill have a long driveway perfect for shooting my bow. I'm looking for a backstop to put in-front of my shed to block any stray arrows that may miss the targets. All recommendations are appreciated!

 

I believe lots of guys on here have shared that stall mats(thick rubber) work great

 

I went with a budget backstop approach:

Built about a 4'x3.5' frame out of 2"x10" (scrap scavenged from a construction project). Chicken wire on the back and front. About once every year or two, I fill with flattened cardboard boxes till buldging (~1').

Rinehart 18x1 and field ball hang in front.

 

Any type of frame to size you want and a few pieces of indoor out door carpet free hanging layered , wire or rope,from the top rail. Movable

 

3/4 inch stall mat, but the misses are a ***** to pull out…. So don’t miss.

Honestly, if you can find an old wood pallet and hang a matt over it, you shouldn't have to worry. Find a 4x4

 

my best friend built one out of carpet, 2x4's, 4 pieces of all-thread and a few washers and nuts that fit on the all-thread.
Wish i had a picture of it but it worked well once it was compressed properly. And everything but the all-thread and washers and nuts he got for free off of FB.

 

Hang a cow mat

 

So I wonder,not claim!, wonder, with the density of a cow mat how many hits can a carbon shaft endure with such density before the fibers become weakened and a possible "blow up" happens?

 

You wouldn't want to fling much carbon into a mat, best case is only miss a time or two... If you keep sending arrows into the mat, its time to give up.

 

A point for someone setting up a back stop for a beginner/ kid trying to get various distances down

 

If that's the case then I wouldn't worry about it. They're shooting less than 50 lbs I wouldn't worry about the arrows getting harmed at all! If you are shooting over 55-70 lbs, that's a lot of kinetic energy getting stopped on a dime...
