Man VT, those beans look awesome!! Great late season plot!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Bout once a week, the big "older" bucks make an appearance. They are not "big" scorewise but good solid 150ish type bucks. Real good setup crop rotation here this year. Corn, beans, and the first time in years SUGARBEETS!! All within 400 yards of me. Plus I have the river within 100 yards and it SO dry here, critters have no choice but hug the river for water. Alas, I'm putting the cart before the cart.. .., mother nature could put a whammy on it all. I'm Giddy over the SB's here though. There is NO BETTER late season food.

What a great morning for stand work. Nice and cool and overcast with a few showers. I feel like I got a lot done. Maybe 2-3 hours yet at 2 new sets and I’ll be ready to let them soak until oct. looks promising. Lots of sign. Not much on cameras yet but there’s always something shows up. Does everywhere. This has really got me excited for the season!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
New cam. First cell cam. Curious to see how it turns out. Will post pics when I get em! Sent from my SM-G950U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I really shouldn’t have went out drinking until 3 last night. Today would have been a perfect day to move my stands around. More heat in the forecast… looks like I’ll just have to suffer a bit. 48 days until season opener. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm SO glad those days are behind me. Been thete/done that! It's a very rare night I'm not in bed by 10p.m. I gotta be doing something productive early a.m. or my mind just ain't in it. Hell, I just came up on the deck to grab a beer now Am splitting oak for winter heat. Cool enuff where it's actually kinda fun. K, gonna guzzle this one and get back after it for awhile.
That tasted SO GOOD that I split a couple more and came back for another. A Heggies brand pizza is on the grill, another beer cracked and I'm gonna enjoy this fine, cool evening..
First climb with the trophyline mini sticks since they were delivered. Made it to 16 feet without an aider. Not bad for a first climb. I love the light weight and packability of these sticks. Got in a few shots to the 3’ oclock position and spent about an hour working on the saddle shape. 30 days to the urban opener and 55 to the general archery opener. Here’s a saddle selfie for all you tree stand haters out there.
We’ve been splitting wood the last two weekends. Definitely not cool enough to feel good. Been near 100 last weekend. Today it was only in the 80’s. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
You split wood in the heat wave this weekend? I thought my wife was crazy for having a garage sale. We had fans plugged in and blowing on us while we sat in the shade.
I love the idea of shedding some weight and being more versatile with a saddle, but it looks so complex that it puts me off. I dont want to be fiddling with life or death knots and carabiners in the middle of the dark!
It is no different than setting up a hang on stand and sticks, other than a small platform to stand on and facing the tree instead of having the back to it.
Been kinda rethinking this special lake area hunt they have going on. Going to submit another application for the first two weeks of October when the deer will be at their most unpressured level. I'll buy two combination permits when they go on sale later this month, that will give me two antlerless and 2 either sex. I'm reluctant on my main hunt area to shoot a doe too close to the rut, I'll take my bow and cross bow to this special hunt area and shoot two does same day and allow me to be picky come end of Oct. all of Nov. Probably put in for the 2nd half of Dec. hunt as well, save some gas money when I never see a buck worthy most years. I still don't think I'm going to get drawn just because I think they are going to be looking for 40-50 LC's who just slaughter the deer every year.
Wish I lived closer to you, I'd show you and let you try out my setup using a modded Summit open shot top. it's just as easy as a sit and climb the way I do it, and it is right up your alley, My new and improved platform/climbing method weighs a little over 5 pounds. There are only a few knots, all of which are simple, even I can do it!
I’ve watched a couple of members on here climb a tree with sticks and a saddle and there is no way you will ever convince me that that method is more simple than a sit and climb stand like a Summit Viper or Lone Wolf sit and climb. Keep in mind that “easier” is relative. I’m not in good shape and I’m almost 60, but in the amount of time it took these physically fit young men to get set up I could have scooted 25’ up a tree, sawed a few limbs off on the way and been set up in the same amount of time. Granted, the saddle set up gives you more stand location options, but I haven’t found my climbers to be a hindrance at all when it comes to killing deer.
