The color on those smallies is amazing. What a great day on the lake.

A recent PM convo with @tdk5525 inspired me to hit the Kalamazoo River over lunch today. That was a solid choice, what wasn't, was my choice in rod. The lil ultra light was a bit too light.
Hooked up 3 times in 10 minutes. Snapped off twice after crazy fights and landed this little one. Tomorrow I will go back with heavier gear.

Yeah river smallies are beasts and the current and debris in river water the odds of landing a 20+" river smallie are pretty slim.

Temps into the 90s...I have all next week to get after it. River fish should start moving hard with those temps on the rise. Let's go.

My son went fishing yesterday with his friend on lake Mille Lacs. My son has fished but he does not own a pole. He sent me some pics when he caught some nice walleyes and a giant fat pig smallmouth that would be on it's way to the taxidermist had I caught it. He thought it was no big deal it was only 22" long. Damn kids.

Tacklebox - Did you move to MI?

We’re up at our campsite this weekend near Sturgeon Bay. Little man and I plan to get after them tomorrow, I can’t wait!

Yep...so glad I found this spot. 1.5 miles in from any direction. Not a soul in sight.

This was me..twice today. First one I was moving a branch out of my way and almost grabbed this...

Then 5 min later I was crawling up a steep bank and came face to face with a water moccasin. Jumped backwards into the creek and hurt my neck. Lol.

I caught my PB 3 pounder yesterday in the neighborhood pond. We took the kayaks out for the first time today and my 3 year old caught a little cat.

Got out for a few hours on Sunday morning. Conditions were not ideal for bed fishing smallies but I still boated 10 or so. Nothing bigger than 2-2.5 lbs. It was overcast, windy, and rained it on us for about 2 hours. Not sure what happened to the bigger ladies, but they were nowhere to be found.

We also landed 8 or 10 largemouth, with the biggest weighing in just a tick under 4. 5 lbs. All of the smallies were caught on Ned rigs, largies were on Senkos and swimbaits. Caught a pile of little rock bass as well. They were awfully aggressive this weekend. Starting to see largemouth on beds, but they are lazy and nowhere near as much fun to catch as the smallies.

Heading up to Northern MI this weekend for 4 days. Not sure what the water temps are going to look like up North, but hoping to find some pre-spawn smallmouth.

Spent the weekend on Croton Pond hammering smallies. Its was insane good. Got bored yesterday afternoon and switched to some gill beds in 2 fow and proceeded to pound them for a couple hours.
In all we caught countless smallmouth and panfish, one pike, and one walleye and a couple lg mouth. Good times

EDIT: Bout forgot about all the rock bass till reading Justin's post above. Those dudes were super aggressive for us this weekend as well. Kinda got annoying. lol

Yep, kinda split my time between KS and MI these days. Live in Byron Center just south of GR.

We drug the RV and boat to Croton this past weekend. We creep further north with relation to where we camp as the summer progresses. We will be near Mesick on the Manistee this coming weekend.

3/16 oz blaze orange road runner jig head tipped with either a white Mister Twister, or a paddle tail grub in rootbeer with chartreuse paddle, caught all my fish.

Katie was using a similar setup but with a chartreuse jig head.

I never even tried anything else as this was working from the first cast to the last. Only reason I even went from the white twister to the RB paddle tail was cause they destroyed everything I had on the boat. Fun stuff

Sometimes it's the simple, tried-and-true stuff that works!
