I went fishing for the sixth time yesterday and finally managed to catch my first bass of the year. It wasn’t big. Only about 2 pounds, but it was the biggest of the day. It helped that the water temperature was finally above 40 degrees. I also went out shed hunting last week for the first time ever and walked up on a pretty nice one. Thanks Tynimiller and Littlechief. I have a Buck knife I got when I was 16. It works good but when I quarter elk have to sharpen it a few times. I’m going to look into that work sharp knife sharpener
Today was a much better day for fishing. I managed to catch 11 and finally ended up getting to use the culling system my son in law got me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Taking my nephew turkey hunting this weekend, he’s never been hunting at all, I think I’m more excited than he is. I’m super pumped to try and get a bird on him, going to be super duper awesome. I’ll post pics when available, I don’t think I’ve been this excited about an opening day in a while.
I put my wife on her first bird last year. No bigger thrill at this point than helping others get their first. I completely understand your excitement. Good luck!
Well I first thought it was a hippo but being in Nebraska that ain’t happening so a coyote is now my vote too Thankfully feral hogs have not come up from Missouri yet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Some of you may have seen this in the bass fishing thread, but I caught a 6.5lb largemouth on Sunday out of a pond. It stayed down deep and was pulling drag and made me think it was a big channel catfish. I was not even excited until it came up and rolled and I saw that it was a bass, then I freaked out a bit until I got it in. lol I had just caught and released a solid 4 lbr five minutes before. Great start to the season!
I have a gerber with the replaceable blades and love it for skinning/caping. Like Ty said about his havalon these kind of knives are ridiculously sharp! Brother in law used his last year to gut his deer, and got a little too quick and left a pretty nasty gash on his finger. Long story short I had to finish that gutting job.
I haven’t been fishing for a week and a half I’m going through withdrawals. I am working on getting a shed built. Tomorrow going to take a ride out in the west desert and see what we find.
Wasn’t a bad little ride. We saw around 20 Sage grouse. They’re starting to strut and that’s always fun to see. We also saw a handful of deer and around 30 antelope and even came across a little herd of elk. I am hoping this week to get at least one fishing trip in. Next weekend we are going camping
I did get one more fishing trip in the day before yesterday. That’s it for a couple of weeks. Today I have to go see my tax man to take care of reporting the income from the sale of our family farm in Arkansas. Tomorrow I have to help the wife with trail maintenance on two of the five miles of the Ozark Trail that she adopted. Then on Wednesday I fly to Eugene, Oregon to help my daughter and her husband move to Millington, Tennessee. I’m really not looking forward to this trip.
Youth turkey weekend was a bust, the weather really screwed us, we still went out, but it killed all movement. I told him we'd have to try again in a week or so when the weather is stable. Kind of bummed it was such a boring weekend, but it's out of my hands. He did great, sat until 2p Saturday, then 1p Sunday without complaining once. Hopefully, I can get him on a bird in the next week or so and show him how much fun turkey hunting is.
