So basically we should blame those damn yankees for taking the "coke" out of Coke.... I mean, it is a pretty suspicious coincidence that the civil war started just 11 years after the Folgers company was founded... kind of makes you wonder if Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S Grant were bought and paid for by big coffee...
Back when I worked for a commercial GC the first new construction job I ever managed 100% on my own was a building for a dialysis center. The building was located in a rural mixed use area and the lot next door had a residential house. Finished construction in march and a few months later, once summer got here, I got a frantic call from the customer about an emergency warranty claim. The architect had specified these fancy Low-E windows that were supposed to reflect like 95% of the solar energy that hit them. Well it turns out that means that the exterior, heat reflecting, pane of the window heats up and expands more than the interior pane which causes all the windows to bow inwards just the slightest bit. It was such a small amount that you couldn't even tell looking at them, but it was just enough to turn each window into a gigantic parabolic mirror with a focal point about 150 feet away. Unfortunately for the neighbors, their house and driveway just happened to be located at that exact distance and at the perfect angle for the late afternoon sun to reflect off the windows and shine directly towards their property. In a matter of a week or so this 30 minute per day reflection had managed to melt probably 25% of the plastic siding on that side of their house and they had this big glob of melted plastic on their driveway that looked absolutely nothing like the car bumper it once was.
while we were dating she made some comment about that, and I says "oh, you gals know about that trick"? To which she gave me a (what I now know to be patented) withering look (where she gives me a series of slow blinks that you can actually, seriously hear an audible 'click' on each one) and says "yeah, we know that trick." Duly noted.
