Just had a doe and a fawn walk behind me at 45 yards.

They just came blazing back by on the same trail.
    Something spooked them.

The joys of late season hunting! Deer are crazy this time of year! Haha. I had the same problems the last couple weeks of the season.

Well, as I’ve said before, these deer aren’t stupid.

There were six in the field as I climbed down. Three came in from the east side and three came from the north.

    Oh well.

Im going to get up at 6:00, get non stand before 8:00 and sit until 12:00 or 12:30.

I got set up right at sunrise. A little earlier than I planned but that’s okay.

    Well, that’s enough seeing nothing.

It’s getting close to the full moon and now we’re in a heat wave. I’m betting the deer will be almost exclusively nocturnal for the next few days.

I may be finished for the year.

Where’s the squirrels? We don’t know because we couldn’t find any. But we had a good time finding deer sign and scouting. Among our interesting finds today; an empty turtle shell, a leg of a dead deer, a well-used creek crossing, and a couple of rubs from last fall. Despite four hours of walking and covering 2.5 miles we only saw one squirrel and no deer. Oh well, beats watching tv. That will put a wrap on the 2020-2021 season for us. Archery season is about over.

Looks like a awesome time in the woods with your son, learning "woodsmanship". Growing up we, my father and brother, would use grouse hunting to scout for deer.

Well, the Arkansas season officially ended this evening. I had already stopped hunting of course but now it’s official.

I really didn’t want to end up with the same number of kills as last year but I did.

I had a great season and it was a lot of fun sharing it with you all and getting to share in your hunts on here also.

I’m looking forward to getting started again in six months in Kentucky. :tu:

It took me almost a half hour to find this post way back on page 30, but I wanted to say good guess.

    You nailed it. :tu:

I just read through every page starting October 27th - November 14th... Is it fall yet?

Reading back through my posts I had more encounters last year than all my previous years combined. I'm ready to get this year started.

I actually had more encounters and deer in bow range than any previous season. Unfortunately for me, only one of the deer in range was a doe that did not present a shot and the rest were bucks that did not meet APR. The three bucks I saw that did meet APR didn't come close enough.

My boat is hooked up and I’ll be heading out to try my luck at some late winter bass fishing tomorrow.

I used to hammer them back in Tennessee this time of year but everything is different here.

    I’ll probably get skunked.
