The 5.5 hour drive to the UP is a small price to pay to get the hell out of IL for a few days. Last night my wife and I planned out all of our trips for this summer. 4-5 days each over Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day. The best time of the year when the FIB's invade.

And a boy's trip to Sturgeon Bay in June to fish smallies.

Some day, you will go out on the lake to see what real fishing is.

I've tried that a few times and spent more time heaving my guts out than fishing.

We had a couple people on a charter do that. 36 foot boat and we were less than a quarter mile out. Lol.

I will admit there were 6 foot swells but still

You don't want lake trout from lake mi. From Superior, yes.

    No tuna?

Wife is making it a girls weekend to go get the rocks, I will be home alone with the dogs pretty much all weekend. I did not want to drive her rig all the way out there and a rental car was $171 per day only problem because of closest National car rental was in Brainard and they are not open on Sundays so I would have to spend another $171 just for the car to get returned so I was thinking let's just spend the $ to get the rocks shipped evidently the rocks are too heavy to put on a plane too. That is when the wife says a couple friends want to go, you go girl.

Regional champs. Onto the state semis we go. This is a wild ride to end her high school career.

Go get checked for the covid.
Anyone that doesn't like salmon must have something wrong with their sense of taste. :poke:
I would imagine though that Chinook salmon fresh caught straight out of the Clearwater River during its return run from the ocean likely tastes a bit different than lake fish.

Actually brown trout tastes even better than salmon.

Although we have the fresh water version, when they are on their spawning run, the flavor and texture does change. We get people who go ape over the spawning run because they can catch a big salmon.

I won't even put those things in my smoker!

I've never tried Brown trout, nowhere close has them that I'm aware of. If they are pink meat than I know I'd like them.
The fall Chinook run at the beginning still yields some fish that are pretty firm, but the longer they are back in fresh water the softer they get. Late in the season they get pretty soft and aren't worth a darn to eat except for being put in a smoker. The early Spring and Fall run fish are fantastic even just lightly seasoned and baked in the oven.

Nope never going to order or prepare tuna steaks, or salmon. I prefer whitefish.
