Audio recorders

    For those who film on a more regular basis.

    Is it a better idea to run a mic into the mic port on the camera, or run separate audio through a recorder and sync later in post? ill provide camera and mic names if you need that to answer thequestion.

    It honestly all depends on your camera and its pre-amps. Arguably, you will get a cleaner audio recording on a recorder with quality mic. You can generally do more with it as well if you want to get down to real technical stuff.

    All that being said, I hardly ever use my audio recorder, other than if I am just out running around and collect quality ambient sounds to use in a project, or maybe voiceover.

    I generally use either one of my shotgun mics or a wireless system and record right to the camera. For most of us that simply do projects that will never see a Bad Lands big screen, that is generally good enough.

    that makes sense. it would be dual purpose for my wifes youtube channel as well, so it wouldnt be entirely for me filming my hunting
