Looking for a good pair of heavy socks to change into once I get to stand to help my feet not freeze. The few I was looking at were the first lite zero cold weather, smart wool extra heavy, farm to feet. Anyone have these or what others do you recommend?
Our local farm store carries these, and for the price, they work pretty well. I've had other more expensive socks and haven't noticed the difference. How cold do you get? Ehh.. I haven't gotten to the point where I cant tolerate it/ wanna leave bc of it but far from comfortable... I also want to upgrade my boots as well. Ill check them out, thanks!
I have about a two dozen farm to feet, every thing from daily socks to heavy weight waders socks. The medium weight Elys are my favorite hunting sock. I also have some smart wool heavy weights, they are nice however not as structured. Filson Heavy weight wool socks are very warm, hold up well and have very durable outwear texture. I also have Gore, darn tuff and icebreaker and few other brands for comparison

Fortunate to have a sock factory outlet about three miles away that sells Smartwool and other socks much cheaper than stores. Got several pair and other types for outdoorsy things.

Darn tough here too, but a few other thoughts: +Loosen your boots in the stand too when you change socks. Snug boots for hiking, but some (air) space is insulation. +some guys on here use the artic shield boot covers... Not cold enough here for me to justify, so ymmv. +those few days here when it is cold, I actually use different boots. I have a pair of boots I had bought for my kids from ****s with a puffy Neoptene inner (recall, if you're old enough, the 'moon boots' of the 70s) with a synthetic outer. They totally suck to hike in, but keep my feet toasty warm. +heated socks also an option, if you get cold feet sitting, like I do.
I second the Darn Tough recommendation. I've worn Smart Wool and First Lite socks, but DT takes the cake easy.
I'm of the opinion that socks make little difference in keeping warm. A good pair of boots" a bit big" and dry feet trumps a sock.

Darn tough.. I thought smart wool was OK until I tried darn tough. No comparison. I gave all my smart wool socks away.
I was at the mall with my fiance and saw an LL bean next door so stopped and checked what they had. None of the major brands but I picked up a pair of LL bean boot socks, 78% merino wool and seem like a decent heavyweight sock... will test out soon
I was a smart wool guy. Nothing wrong with them and they’re actually great but i tried Darn tough. I will never buy another brand wool sock.
