Having the site down sucked. I hunted every day this last weekend. Before Sunday morning I had only caught a glimpse of two deer, both far enough away in the timber that I couldn’t tell if a buck or doe. On Sunday I would’ve posted, “Last day I can hunt before the unit my property is in closes. I’m cheating today and have the 7mm/08 sitting in the blind next to me. Only yearlings are safe, need one for the freezer.” An hour later I would’ve posted “just took a shot at a small buck, 130 yards, shot felt good”.
Short blood trail, yet amazing too. The shot took both lungs and the top of the heart, yet it still ran about 100 yards. After finding it I walked back to the blind and grabbed some gear and then headed for the pickup to get the Grizz. On the way I bumped another buck that was cruising, of course he was three times as big. 140-145 all day long, a great buck for the area. 2020, ‘nuff said. Still very pleased to have one for the freezer.
I'm in the stand where I almost shot a doe last night, super close to bedding. 4 does and a fawn last night with no bucks. This morning there was a lone fork horn youngster in here, so im hoping for the stars to align. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
