Forgot to post LFTS last night. Sat for last hour of day and shot this guy 10 mins before end of legal. Would have been 8 pt but both the tips of his main beams are broken from fighting. Had my dog come track his first deer since I knew it would be a guaranteed recovering. he did great for his 1st track never wondered off of it even though I know there was many other deer tracks in the area.
Can you post (or PM me) entry/exit holes? I have a Ruger .44 carbine like that and I've never actually shot anything with it yet. Sweet little guns though and dead nuts accurate out to 125 or so.
I'm interested as well. I shot one a few years ago with my Marlin 1894, LeverRevolution load. Not a huge fan of how that round performed, and I didn't get a chance to send a 240gr SP down range today...
I am 1000% done using Hornady LeverEvolution rounds in any caliber on deer. I don't care how much faster/accurate/longer range; they do not expand at all unless they hit heavy bone. Not just my opinion, very common complaint on the interwebs. For the .44 I am using the PPU 240gr, very accurate and very cheap (well, normally) compared to the Remington loads. Unfortunately I bought a crapload of .35 Remmy in that LeveREvolution series so unless I start hunting a lot of hog or dark timber elk (neither are likely) that will be sitting in my bunker for perpetuity.
Will do, when I get home. I was trying to use up an old box of semi jacketed shells not much expansion and need to get him on ice. 2 mile drag up hill, sucked, big time. I'm just glad he was maybe 150 dressed. He had snuck in down wind and surprised me. Maybe 40yds...and I didnt bring the bow today. :eyeroll:
I had the opposite results, bullet absolutely disintegrated at 70yds. I've switched to Winchester White box, but haven't had a field test yet.
Not too much to get excited about on my cams yesterday. Just 2 small bucks and only a couple doe. I am not hunting today, I have a touch of hunt burnout. I've hunted the last 8 days, which equals 16 miles of hiking in and out, and 32 hours on stand. I'll hit it again next week. I have an antlerless tag, so if things get dire, I'll use it.
Yesterday started pretty good with a few little bucks& does chasing each other. Quiet for a few hours. About 2 PM I see a doe running for her life and a nice buck chasing. Grabbed the 12 gauge and yelled a few times until he stopped. Let one fly and sent another as he was running hard. Gave him some time, then tracked him way downhill across the creek and way up a hill. Called it at sunset but pickup this morning for another hour until he made it to the neighbors land. My host said we can’t go any further. Really bummed. I think he would havee been my biggest buck. Oh well I gave it my all, just need better shot placement and maybe a bit of luck. safe hunts Y’all. Longdraw.
