It's so tough to watch an old loyal friend start to fade. Really hoping it's not anything too serious.
Roscoe hates being here during bow season. Only time of year he is confined. He starts pouting as soon I start getting camo on.
Took copper (britt) on his first pheasant hunt while Archer is on year two. The lab is a rock star the britt starteded to figure it out in the end. Sent from my SM-G981V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Mine too... Its a pretty consistent schedule... I leave at 5am, then return around 9 to pick him up and take him to the office then back home at 3:30 to drop him off and let him fend for himself until I get back around 6:30. He knows the deal and he knows ill be back in 3 hours or so, but he whines like a little baby and gives me the pouty eyes every time I leave. I keep telling him "you cant kill em from the couch. All you gotta do is learn to climb trees and you could come with me". I think it's a lost cause though, he hasn't even tried to climb a small tree yet. He is a good tracking dog though, but only for certain things so it depends on what you need to track down.. For instance, he can't track any type of wild game worth a ****, but on the other hand, if you ever misplace your sofa, he can sniff that thing out from 3-4 miles away.
My two dogs act like it's the end of the world when I leave them in the house and I start walking out into the woods. They go to every window they can in order to follow me and start howling. I will admit, they're pretty good at making me feel a bit guilty. When I return a few hours later it is like I've been gone for a month! They start prancing around, showing off and trying to get petted and reassured that I'll never leave them again. I am sure that is why they are man's best friend.
My dog is responding to the anti-inflammatories and pain meds. Slowly weaning her off the pain meds. She is walking around a bit and is finally able to pick her head up. The vet thinks she had a swollen disc or injured her neck muscles some how. Great dog.
Preserve in Iowa. Wild pheasant season was just about to open so I wanted to do a warm up. Plus it's a good way to get a new dog on birds. The numbers aren't great around me so finding them in the wild can be a challenge. Especially for a guy like who who just really started trying last year lol Sent from my SM-G981V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
My pup got her first rabbit today! Unfortunately I'm at work and didn't get to get her first one with her but my dad did so oh well, still proud of her. only her 2nd time out too!
Had to put the older girl down this summer, so the reigns are officially passed on to the pup. I can only hope the piss and vinegar running through her veins subsides and she becomes even half of what the old timer was.
During the Wisconsin gun season I make my dogs wear vests. Trying to keep them safe. Sent from my SM-G981U using Tapatalk
Roscoe treed a red squirrel this morning. I shot it and cooked it for him. Wasn't enuff. He then went and gnawed on a deer carcass for an hour. Got his fill. Hes tired n lazy now.
Just gave him a Christmas beer. He sucked it down and is now sawing logs at my feet. Hes getting old but his passion is going coyote calling. We tried before dark tonight. Nothing came in but was sure awesome to see him with such an intense/focused look to him. Had 3 different coyotes answer from 3 different directions. His head was on a swivel.! Got a gutt pile 40 yards out the front door. Coyotes are checking it out. Roscoe goes out n cancels out the piss spots with his own piss. Killed a sheet load of coyotes with him along. Fun 11 years its been.
My damn yappers have figured out what it means when the cell phone chimes from the cameras outside, noticed it today when they were sitting on the couch with me. The phone chimes from the camera they all get the low growl, get a text they ignore. Different tone but the crapheads know what it means.
