You are scouting, looking for the perfect secluded whitetail sign. You finally find it, and then start looking for the tree to set your stand in. your eyes scan the trees quickly, something catches your eye, and the "No!" thought enters your mind as you realize there is already a treestand in this spot. you walk up to it and see that this stand is old. The tree is growing around it. It is an abandoned treestand. We've all seen them in the woods and wondered what kind of stories they could tell. This thread is dedicated to the stands who have past their prime glory years and are now forgotten memories of a previous generation of hunters. Feel free to share pics you have of these abandoned treestands, and tell us how you found them! EDIT: let's not just limit this to treestands. Feel free to post pics of anything old and interesting you have come across while hunting/scouting!
Here is a picture of my dad‘s tree stand from the early 90s. He had stopped hunting for a few years and forgot all about it. His yearly routine in the summer would be to go and adjust the chain. Here it is in 2019.
Here is one I found Deep in the woods on public land. At first glance it’s a loggy bayou stand That still looks serviceable. Upon closer review, the tree has grown around the ropes. Clearly it was used for shotgun or muzzleloader season to watch a ridge on the other side of the swamp.
Here is the remnants Of a wooden stand, that holds a special place in my heart! This was my dad‘s tree stand from the early 80s. I was eight years old I’m sitting on the rock nearby when he was building it. This is also the tree that he shot the buck from the following fall that started it all for me. Here’s how it looked in 2017, and the second picture was from last year.
Makes u wonder about some of these setups, and what kind of success had been had. I’ve also found several arrows buried in the ground over the years, and some in the thick stuff. Hard to say whether they fell out of a quiver, or out of a deer
Must have been a chore to drag all those landscape timbers into the woods. Many years ago, saw a ladder stand made from 2x4s.
