I have to take the boy to school in the morning but I should be able to get home and in the stand by 7:45. They should be cleaning scrapes out tomorrow morning after all this rain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sorry for the delay. Sunday morning I hunted a different place we own that I don't have any cameras on. Usually it's a great morning spot but I got skunked. Sunday evening with the cool weather and light rain, I decided to hunt my best stand behind my house. I hadn't hunted it this year but my son did Friday evening. At 4pm I had a lone doe come in NE of me and bed down. She stayed a few minutes then got up and went into the standing corn to my east. At 5PM I looked to the east and saw movement where I last saw the doe. But it wasn't her, it was the buck I wanted. Yep, the first time I saw him alive, and he was headed my way! He stopped where the doe bedded, sniffed the ground and made a scrape. And then he stopped. For 40 MINUTES!! I was a wreck, thinking of all the things that could go south and not get a chance at him....and then he took a step. Then another and started circling my stand to get down wind. At 5:50....he had finally made his way to 31 yards. He was dangerously close to being in my scent stream. I had my crossbow that evening, so I settled the crosshairs and squeezed the trigger. He bounded off about 40 yards, stopped, his legs wobbled and he was done. My first buck over 8pts. My first buck that I had pics of, and my first deer with my crossbow. I called my wife to help and sat down to reflect on what had happened. The rest of the evening was spent loading him up, getting him back to the house and having some celebratory beers with my friends and family. I did rough score him but the taxidermist is supposed to get me an official score. Sorry I didn't write down all the measurements, it was a busy night. When I get the score, I will post up. We came up with 142 and change. 12 points, and a night I will never forget.
Great story! I bumped 8 or 9 on the way into my stand this evening. About 5 is saw two doe out of range. Just before dark I had two small does within 20 yards. Then a spike came in grunting and pushing then around my stand until it was too dark to shoot. Hunting tomorrow behind the house where my son killed his buck. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
Today is my last day of work until Nov 9th. I'm pumped! I'm not too excited about the temps though. Going to be mid 60's next week....ARGH!!! Excited to try out the ozonics and see what difference it might make. Going to be hunting my core stands that I've stayed out of through October. Fingers crossed!
Man what an awesome encounter! Never had this buck on camera. He came in checking and working scrapes along the way. I thought he was going to come in perfectly broadside & he changed up on me just into a shooting lane, so it was a hard quartering away shot. Pretty obvious from the pic! Ended up taking out the jugular on the exit. He didnt go real far, but a heck of alot further than i expected. Score to come in a bit, at least to the best of my abilities ! Next up in the batter's box- doe! Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
I have the scent crusher ozone car plug in. Seems to work great. I run it while en route to the stand in my hunting gear, just have to crack the window because i cant tolerate the ozone smell Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
Ok got a doe this morning already posted on contest page. The does we’re out this morning feasting on acorns.
Speaking of scent control. Yesterday was the first time for me testing scent thief which is a scent that is supposed to overload there nose when they get a smell of it. I put it on my boots and 2 does came in downwind of me and cut across my track. And tried to pinpoint me but couldn’t just walked around testing the air for a while and finally left. Seems to be a good first trial run not to get busted anyway.
