I seriously think it was a broadhead that hit the shoulder quartering to, then it rode the length of the spine. That's a perfectly straight bladed cut.
I agree with the straight cut, but wouldn't it have to be a pretty much ground level straight on or straight away shot, maybe a bit off center, but no way was that an elevated shot. We'll likely never know the true reasoning, which sucks. I'd like to think it was not hunter induced, if it was I would love to hear the story as to how it happened.
Having grown up on a 5000 acre corn and soybean farm, and having spent many hours behind the wheel of a combine, it is my opinion this was not caused by a combine or any other farming implement. I have seen deer get caught in a corn head, but they were either already dead or mortally wounded. This deer appeared to be walking fine and could have gotten out of the the way of a combine moving at ~5.5 mph. The cut is too clean to be farming equipment. I could be wrong though. That is a crazy cut. I think back to that buck impaled on the lone tpost that was being used for a gate stop, something random like that. More than likely we will never know.
That buck (3) is 9-10 years old. I've posted picks of him before. If I can find them I'll post several years of him as a drop tine he was in his glory days. He is one tuff cookie!
1 hr til shoot light. Came in a different way and set up 30 yds away from yesterday in case anything smelled my scent last night. I got 6 hrs sleep and a cup of coffee! Feel almost like a normal non sleep deprived moron. My buddy from yesterday gave me a new trail cam. He wouldnt take no for an answer. Been helping him get ready for bow season for months and shared many of my spots. I told him I wouldnt take it and would put it back in his locker at work every day. He said he would do the same and put the cam back in my locker. We just laughed and agreed the cam was mine now. I always feel guilty taking gifts. Bring on the big bucks!
