I have been watching that truck also. Honestly, I don't think that price is insane for what it is. Looks to be a touch over 100k. I know that is a stupid number, but not really when you look at what it costs to buy a new Suburban or Escalade. My last 1/2 T pickup had a sticker of more than 60, and this Hummer is way cooler. I would hesitate to buy the very first model year though. That normally does not end well for the consumer.
At this rate, in 10 years a new truck or SUV is going to cost more than what I paid for my house. It looks cool, but I think I will keep driving older cars that I pay cash for and but that car payment money into my retirement.
Very few people get that concept. Even fewer actually do it. I paid cash and drove older trucks until I was 38 years old. I waited until I had at least $$$$$ (my goal at the time) in retirement investments before I started buying new. Now, I can trade every couple of years for about $3,500 or less per year because I don't put many miles on and I take good care of my trucks. That eliminates the exposure to repair bills also. Good for you for thinking ahead and not falling into the trap of driving the nicest vehicle you can afford a monthly payment on. Smart!!!
We upgraded my wife's vehicle this past summer from a 2006 Ford Explorer with 150K to a 2016 Dodge Journey with 80K, paid cash. My current ride is a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with 215K. The engine in those lasts forever so I am hoping at the earliest, I will consider replacing it next summer if needed. Otherwise, if it keeps running like it is, I made hold on to it until it hits 300K and just keep on investing and saving towards the next one.
My son-in-law saw a Ford truck that was $82K. I saw one that was $67K; $48K base and $19K of options. Heated steering wheel? When I lived up North, we put on gloves.
I will drive my 11’ Tundra until it looks like Swiss cheese. And at the rate it’s going I’ll be handing it down to my 7mo. Old son. I will say, this truck does look pretty freaking cool. Will be interesting to see if it gains traction and they manage to produce it for enough years to get the kinks worked out or if it will flop. 100k for a truck will appeal to a much smaller market. I think 60-70k is about the tipping point where the blue collar guys are starting to say “screw that”.
Meh, the wife had an original Hummer for awhile, did not care for it. Drove a H2 once and thats all it took. I'd rather have a Telsa truck, guarantee it'll be easier to park.
Did you have your frame inspected? From what I understand you are able to have it re-inspected for a certain amount of years as long as you did so within the first 2 years of your first recall notice. I have until February to get my first inspection done on my Tacoma, they'll run forever but only if the main support can hold it all together
There was a recall on my years driveshafts but those were mainly out west. My frame looks pretty good. As far as I know haha. A guy I work with had about a 00’ Tacoma and he made out like a bandit on the buyback because of the frame.
I am against electric vehicles probably because the owners of said vehicles feel so superior about how they are saving the environment.
I will say this.. When I still had the Tesla Roadster I thoroughly enjoyed whooping everything that wanted to race it. The only time I was smug about anything was when the competitors ran their dumb mouths and refused to hand over pink slips.
We've already put our name on the list for the truck but who knows when that's going to happen. I'm still trying to finagle a Bronco but Ford is also coming out with a limited production GT40 and we submitted our application back in 2017 and have been in the process since.
