Gonna get out this weekend I hope (weather permitting) but just got news that I was selected for a small quota hunt at a local state park!! Last time I was picked didn’t go well but I have more of a set plan this time! Wish me luck. Will be scouting there quite a bit over the next month or so. Wish me luck!!!

I plan on going out Sunday sometime. Had a decent shooter buck show up for the first time last night. Hope he starts to come around more often.
Wife went out tonight and had a close encounter with a bear from the ground blind. She was shaking really bad she said.

So close to getting it done on a nice buck tonight. 10 minutes before last light I hear a deer coming down the trail. I immediately think buck because basically all does/fawns already filtered into the field. I get eyes on him at about 60 yards, coming right down the trail that goes by my stand at 17. He comes into roughly 35-40 and caught my scent and stops on a dime. Stood there for about 5 minutes, takes a few steps, and then blows 6-8 times. He didn't run away, just had his tail up and was kind of stomping around. Walked about 50-60 yards away and came straight back into roughly 25 yards and started grunting over and over (at this time it was too dark to shoot). Exciting end to the night.

Screenshot of a trail cam video. I’ll post some of the others later. New bucks showing up all over. All at night unfortunately.

I was supposed to have a wedding this afternoon but some things came up... I’ve been in close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid. Was with them all last week in close vicinity. 2 others I live with got tested this morning. I was sick earlier this week so I assume I’ve got it. I only had a slight cough, itchy throat, and headache for 2 days. Very minor.

So now I get to quarantine for 2 weeks. A lot more hunting on tap for me.

On that note, I’ll be in the stand this afternoon!

Not good that you possibly have it, but nice that you will get to spend more time in the woods.

Time for me to get serious this week. I will be in a stand a lot the next week. Supposed to get cold here in MN.

Don’t let anyone tell you the October lull is a thing.

    We have deer to kill

Had a buck show back up today. Had pics of him in July but nothing since. Pretty sure he is 4 this yr. Passed him twice as a 2yr old. Seen him once last year, was to thick to get a shot. Hopefully I can get a chance at him IMG_1219.JPG

Good looking buck and I think you are right on age. Good luck chasing him.

I won't be out till Thursday. Rain the next two days, and I have a session with a client on Wednesday morning, then have to write a paper about it to present to my Wednesday night class. I'm using today and tomorrow to get as far ahead on my schoolwork as possible so I can be out in the woods as much as possible. I'm fairly certain once the rut hits, my honey hole spot will put me in the action.

The covid sickness has kicked in. Basically everyone in the house is sick and 3 of them tested positive. Woke up this morning without my sense of smell and taste. My head is so stuffy and I cannot stop sneezing.

Super windy today and tomorrow. I went and did a little scouting when I got done with work this afternoon. Didn’t realize how much it affected my lungs. They were on fire while I was walking around.

I’m basically scouting for a good tree to get a stand in for when the rut kicks in. In the swamp and just tough to find a good tree. Didn’t find what I was looking for. Gunna go out again tomorrow afternoon since it will be 20+ mph winds again.

Gets really cold late this week so I’ll be on stand every chance I can get if I’m not too sick.
