I heard an Illinois giant fell opening day somewhere by Albany if I'm not mistaken. I would hunt the morning but I just kick deer up cause they're out freelancing at 4 am. On the road now 4 hours to go. I'll check cards tonight and see whats been happening the last few days. I got a good feeling tomorrow afternoon I'll see a buck or two. 6 deer in the plots now i was just told. Mom and fawns only.
I saw a small 6 and a little spike this eve . Headed to my club property in the morn . Hope I can sneak into a isolated creek bottom on the edge of a thick bedding area without spoiling anything . Got a long walk to get there so going to bed early , good luck tomorrow !
I haven’t been on here much I apologize. We need to get this team threads fire burning. I’ve been active on the LFTS thread. Pretty much I had an all day hunt Friday which was awesome as far as deer sighted and temps made for gorgeous early October hunting. I saw one I would have shot but he was a hair out of range. Hunted tonight and had 2 does give me the slip. So no shots fired yet but it’s ok plenty early
I’ve been out 3 times, pile of does and a 6 point. Nothing presented itself on film I wanted to shoot yet. Moved some cell cams around yesterday and also a few of my Browning video cams. Not quite time for me yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nothing for me last night. Pulled my trail cam card on the way out and had a doe pic while I was on stand. I wasn’t sitting to far from the camera but really thick so did not see her. Got my first buck pic of the year as well. Pic was taken around 5:46 am so he is likely heading back to bed.
I don’t want to here another word about high stem count, transitions, soft transitions, and acorns. A good time was had, but we put in 17 miles in 4 days and saw three does. It was a cool place to camp though.
We pulled up, canoed out, and went to the South side of the lake. Set up this morning 150 yards off of corn fields, 60 yard from a pond, and on white oaks. Nothing. But camping out of the truck is nice.
You have good luck with browning cams? I had a few take a crap on me so was thinking of trying a different brand. Was wondering about the Spartans and couple others
Well same song different station seems like. Had a dandy 8 point come it to 54 yards this morning. Just didn’t feel comfortable with the shot due to all the cover still out. Wasn’t sure if the lane I had open was totally clear.. maybe next time. Good luck out there fellas!
Looks like you had a pretty cool trip. Hate you didn’t see much tho, bet it was still worth the experience.
Well, Spartans are great. My group runs 6-7. But yes, for my video stuff, the Brownings (Advantage series) cameras are amazing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Slickbilly...your trip sounds like mine. Fun, awesome, but very little deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The spots I picked out on the map looked perfect when we actually got in there. I was blown away there were no old rubs. We found some back in the Will Hay branch but they looked two years old. We ended up pulling out Saturday mid day and going in tower ridge rd.
That did look like an awesome trip Slick. I’m going to a place with canoe like that but not camping cause it’s only hr from house.
When i was there last year we found a ton of scrapes and rubs, we weren’t in there till November though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
