Alright guys I'm trying something different today. I'm going to a property that I have never step foot on. It's has large ag fields with beans. A couple large chunks of woods, a river near by and a couple swamps ripping up thru the middle of the woods. I headed to property now. Going to spend a couple hours scouting. If I find what I'm looking for o will stop and setup. It's highly pressured and the woods is only a couple hundred acres. It's reservation only, so it limits the number of hunters. This should be fun! Will update once on the property. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Woke up, coffee, food, poop, climb mountain. Saw two mule deer, doe and fawn. Found a nice valley with a seep, grass, alders and thick pines. Lots of scat. But very little barnyard stank... So I think this is just a staffing area up /down the mtn. Great wind, so I'm gonna set here a bit.
My views. Game trail around alders, 40-50yds. Meadow 35-50 yds Lots of stick breaking and squirrels dropping pine cones.

Well, 4 hours later and no luck. Not sure if I bumped her out of her bed last night but I didn’t have much blood after that. I have a 7 month old Fox Red lab that has a great nose but hasn’t really tracked deer before but I know he has a good nose and has trailed deer after they have run in front of us without seeing them. I had him along too. He trailed her very well actually and led me right to her bed and where I last had blood. I only had a couple drops after that. I think she headed into our cattail marsh but checked as many of the trails going in and didn’t find any blood. Grid searched the grass field and trudged through the cattails for a good hour and a half. I did kick up two deer out of the wet cattails, but don’t think they were necessarily her, but wasn’t able to see or find blood. Could just hear them running through the water. My dog got excited a few times, but no visible blood in those spots. I was in my hands and knees and was able to find a few specs to determine what trail she was in for a while afterher bed, but then never could find more. The only thing I could think is that I hit her a tad low. I was well into the brown fur. Honestly thought it washeart. She’s probably dead in the cattails, but i just couldn’t find her. I was hoping I/my dog couldsmell her, but no such luck. Unfortunately I have to work tonight so I need to sleep and I’m exhausted from trudging through the marsh. Even if I recovered her at this point, not sure the meat would be good. Pretty bummed. Felt good about the shot. Was around 18 yardsbroadside in the wide open. Don’t know how Ididn’t find her. Starting to doubt my ability. Ipractice shooting and really am normally a goodshot. Really need a confidence boost at this point!
Sorry to hear that! It happens to all of us, sucks but you have to get back in the tree and build your confidence! Adam Elite Kure 29.5/70lb CBE Engage Hybrid 3pin Dead Center Dead Level Hunter Kit 8/6in Goldtip Kinetic Kaos 340 Spine 29in TAC driver 275 100gr NAP Killzone 455gr/276fps
Damn, that's an awful feeling! Many of us have been there before and know what you are going through. Try and brush it off and get back in the stand as soon as you can.
