First sit of the year! Can’t kill em from the couch. Windy and 75 but these guys came out early. Had the doe at 22 yards, but decided to pass as the fawns were pretty small yet. I know they’d probably be fine, but lots of season left! Hope that’s a sign of things to come.

Well apparently I shouldn’t have been so confident. I literally thought I heart shot her but the arrow told me different. Did have decent blood and found a couple beds, but definitely not the shot I thought it was. Must’ve been just a touch low. Leaving her lay and heading out tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed! I’m at a loss right now, but hopeful I’ll get her tomorrow (hopefully before the coyotes and weather)
I don't know what the temps are but I hope it's not too warm where you are brother! Hope you get her!
I’m in WI. Got down to 56 And is only supposed to be 63 today....if I get her within the first couple hours this AM I think she’ll be ok. Heading out about 8:00 AM. I’ll update.

Well, 4 hours later and no luck. Not sure if I bumped her out of her bed last night but I didn’t have much blood after that. I have a 7 month old Fox Red lab that has a great nose but hasn’t really tracked deer before but I know he has a good nose and has trailed deer after they have run in front of us without seeing them. I had him along too. He trailed her very well actually and led me right to her bed and where I last had blood. I only had a couple drops after that. I think she headed into our cattail marsh but checked as many of the trails going in and didn’t find any blood. Grid searched the grass field and trudged through the cattails for a good hour and a half. I did kick up two deer out of the wet cattails, but don’t think they were necessarily her, but wasn’t able to see or find blood. Could just hear them running through the water. My dog got excited a few times, but no visible blood in those spots. I was in my hands and knees and was able to find a few specs to determine what trail she was in for a while after her bed, but then never could find more. The only thing I could think is that I hit her a tad low. I was well into the brown fur. Honestly thought it was heart. She’s probably dead in the cattails, but i just couldn’t find her. I was hoping I/my dog could smell her, but no such luck. Unfortunately I have to work tonight so I need to sleep and I’m exhausted from trudging through the marsh. Even if I recovered her at this point, not sure the meat would be good. Pretty bummed. Felt good about the shot. Was around 18 yards broadside in the wide open. Don’t know how I didn’t find her. Starting to doubt my ability. I practice shooting and really am normally a good shot. Really need a confidence boost at this point!

Saw a couple does that tonight and heard a couple other deer but couldn't see them. Three minutes left of shooting light a nice 8 walks out 27 yards broadside!!! But I didn't draw back. Let's hope I don't regret that lol. He was probably 120 inches. Real nice time length but not much width. I've got a few real nice ones out there otherwise I would have let the arrow fly.
