    Also getting my girlfriend into hunting this year... (most guys go hunting to get away from the old lady) haha shes been practicing with my crossbow and she’s ready to go! So I’m trying to set her up on a nice fat doe or a decent buck in the first couple weeks of the season for her first deer so my first couple hunts might be observation hunts

    I usually hold out on shooting a buck for the rut because I always get new ones showing up. Have a target buck for the last 3 years that shows up for a week on November 7th every year... after the rut I’ll hunt to fill my tag... shot this 2 year old 9pt last year that would have been a giant someday lol [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    The best thing that came from me being hurt in the Army is that my licenses are free. They could have kept the retirement haha

    Keyword = “non-resident”
    That’s not as high as I would!expect for a state that is known for big whitetails. Even NC’s non-resident hunting license + big game privilege will run your $200 (Plus extra if you’re from TN, GA, or SC) and when people think of NC, trophy whitetails isn’t exactly the first thing to come to mind. Granted what we lack in quality we make up for in quantity so nc license does include 2 either-sex and 4 antlerless tags so i guess that works out to be around $33 per deer if you fill all of them.

    If all goes according to plan, by this time tomorrow I will have one fewer tag than I have today and there will be a 12 pt. buck hanging up in my walk-in cooler.

    A more likely outcome is I will be hungry and in the process of climbing down empty handed to go get something to eat and relocate to my afternoon stand. I doubt I’ll shoot a doe tomorrow morning even if I see a nice one. I love shooting does, but there has been a surprisingly big 8 pointer coming by that stand a lot of mornings and I don’t want him to get spooked by anything other than an arrow going through his lungs.

    I’m jealous - I’d love to find a girlfriend that likes to hunt or is at least willing to try it. It would save sooo much drama related to my absence during the hunting season if she wanted to hunt too.

    Plus gettin laid in deer camp after a successful hunt is a plus.

    Oh yea even here a non-resident tag will cost you $164 for archery season I'm just sayin...that's more than I'm willing to pay to hunt a deer lol. Now, sometime before I die I do want to go west and try my hand at downing an elk and I know that's gonna cost me but as much as I love whitetail and all things deer hunting I'm perfectly content with my $38 resident, smaller, WV deer hunting license. Lol. I hope you stick a giant though Tony! They do have some beautiful bucks next door!

    Haven’t seen anything yet, but hopefully they just stopped on the way here to grab a last meal so they can finish flattening themselves up for my freezer.

    Hey guys, sorry for not being more involved in the chats. I have a remodeling business and we are slammed right now. Wish i could find 2 more carpenters to hire.

    Once season gets here I’ll be chatting more.

    Good luck to everyone!!
