I've been doing mock scrapes for years, and have used a ton of different products. Never really saw any certain product be way more successful than other products. From what I've seen in the areas that I hunt, the bucks make scrapes wherever, and whenever they feel like it. One spot I hunted the last couple years, basically if there was a vine hanging down somewhere in the woods, I'd say there was an 80% chance a scrape was under it. Starting in mid-October, scrapes were popping up everywhere. But another spot I hunt, we don't see scrapes until November. And like I said, I keep up with mock scrapes every year, and the bucks just don't really care much. I do however, like using a preorbital scent on the licking branch. I can't tell if it's help too much, but I like doing it...♂️

I'm heading south now to go do some acorn scouting, still got 3 weeks til the opener..........so I don't know if anyone has ever noticed that when it rains I see way more feeding under red acorns. Think the rain knocks down the acidity? Makes them more appealing? I hunt acorn ridges mainly just been something I've noticed hunting the white acorns in the start of the season if any are left of course. Curious if anyone else has noticed this. I'm not saying they only eat them in the rain but just favor them more. Things I think about while sitting hours in a tree!
I haven’t figured the acorns out yet. I think the places I’ve hunted in the past have a lot of different food sources, so it seems like I was hunting a bunch of really small time frames. It’s also been really good acorn years these past few years and not so this year, so I’m hoping this year I’ll be able to get on those isolated oaks early season. I haven’t figured out corn either. Damn...I’ve been at this a while and still don’t know anything!
Yeah lol countless hours of wondering and learning we still don't know everything. Big bucks are smart I do know this. Maybe just after a big rain or misting they're more secure in daylight feeding as well. I hunt the edge of a swamp that leads to the acorns, wind is key but they always stay in front of my stand. Solid pinch point and my entry is undetected!

Well nothing to write home about on the cameras. The same 2.5 or 3.5 yo 10. I set up a lock on where I bumped a mature 10 bedded last year. If anything, it’ll work out late season with the corn. Also, the oats sprouted! If we had a little rain it’d really take off.
I’m jelly of anyone in the woods today. Not that I even have my $hit together, but I want to have my $hit together if that counts haha. Need to start getting my camo out and washed/hung/ozoned. Bought a few pieces of plythal last year, hope they work out ok
Went out for a couple of hours with my son for youth season this evening. Got rained out and called it before the storm that is coming. Might be back out tomorrow. We have an early doe season next weekend that I might take the bow. It was nice to be in the woods even though we got soaked
I had to bale right at prime time because of a thunderstorm quickly approaching , going to hunt a stand at my club property in the morn , it in a creek bottom with ,a bunch of muscadines vineS all around , hope they are dropping . Haven’t been back in there since last fall
Kentucky is over. No tag punched. It kicked my ass but it was fun as hell. Over 3 days I put in 15 miles in the mountains. 96 degrees today and then it rained like a hurricane. Ohio open in 2 weeks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
