Never thought much about them but I was watching some of Catman Outdoors on youtube and he filmed an armadillo under his stand. I got to thinking, just what in the hell is that thing? I mean I have seen film of them and pics, but I really don't know what it is.... I have never seen one in VA. I assume they are not here. Are they common? I mean I always heard about them in like TX or southwest I guess, but apparently they are all over the southeast and as far up as Indiana and Neb. Anyone see them regularly where you hunt? And are they a nuisance in any way?

Well, I have a stupid answer for you.
    It’s an armadillo.

They are everywhere in Alabama. No real issue though. Have had cows break legs by stepping in their holes

also apparently humans have it to them back in the day

I stand corrected, apparently, the VA Natural History Museum has confirmed them in the western part of the state...that's way away from the east where I am.

Have to believe that a 410 at close range is effective much like the opossum.

Apparently, we didn't stop them at the border... If you had only built a wall...

NC wildlife is asking for folks to help reporting/spotting them, I assume to update their tracking, research, spread, etc.

NC does have a decent observation program, though armadillo sightings have yet to surpass bobcat (3.3 seen per 1000 hunting hrs), red fox (3.1) or swine (2.6).... [IMG]

I see them all the time in Arkansas. I once had a good scare as I was getting out of my stand in the dark one evening. An armadillo exploded out of hole in the ground two feet from the tree. The hole had leaves over it so I didn't see it when I got in the tree. It startled me bad because thought it was a snake striking at me.

I could be wrong, but I think they don't have very good eyesight. I had one walk to within three feet of me once while I was gutting a deer. It acted like it had no clue I was there until I said "hey."
