Start her out with good equipment an go slow.

My wife and I have a great time hunting together. She only hunts on blue bird days as she can't handle the cold.

I agree with Tony. Looks like you have that covered. Keep it fun, no need for antler restrictions. Every deer is a trophy.

Any of you guys hunt out of pop up ground blinds? I've hunted from the ground before but don't care for it. I feel like I should set one up in an area that was logged at the end of last season. There are some tree tops that would make for some good cover, acorns, and some logging trail lanes.

I used to hunt out of a ghost blind the mirrored blinds when I hunted in Georgia, it worked out great and was very comfortable because id sit in a nice camping chair!

I hunt about 65% of the time out of a ground blind. I'm 6'8 250lbs, so I kinda stand out in a tree. And I'm fidgety as hell...

They're great for the kids too.

I just put them on an edge or against a shrub, and don't bother brushing them in.

Agreed! I'm always peaking to see what that noise was behind me.

And yep, 6'8. I played D1 volleyball. :dan:

I ran out to the lease today and put up my ground blind, did a little trimming and moved a couple cameras. I still have a bunch of work to do. Ideally I will get another stand up and move another stand but at this point I may just get a couple hunts under my belt before I move a bunch of stuff. Time will tell.

Myself, my wife and 3 year old son, my friend Jim who owns the property, and his wife went down to do some mowing and some final prep for season. Also some trail maintenance... via 4 wheelers and dirt bikes lol. The deer are used to it. I ran by the feeder in the pics above of the big buck, went back near the cabin and while I was fighting with a swarm of yellow jackets stinging me (40+ stings) we were getting photo texts from that feeder of a smaller buck 4 or 5 points on his right side 3 and a crab claw on his left.

Its been a fun preseason. I think a few ground blinds will go in. We have had thousands of photos. 3800 on the one camera of turkey and deer by the pond. I wont be hunting opening day due to an anniversary overnight with my wife. But sunday we will be out on my place and have had a few monsters in the past and a few nice 9 smaller) 10 points running around. I am ready to get out into the deer woods and Im happy to see everyone else so enthusiastic as well.

Oh an my wife bow hunts as well. She has shot all of her deer when I was at work shes a nurse who works night shift. so she calls me when im about to get off of work and says hey... I shot a doe when you find her take a pic for me lol

Robbie those are some great looking bucks! Hope you recover quickly from the stings...

Oct 1st is going to get here quick now....

I still have several stands and a couple blinds to relocate also. Never seem to get them all done before season starts every year. I have 15 ladder stands and 4 blinds that I use on the 500 acres that I hunt.

Definitely some nice bucks Robbie. I hope we can get a good look at the bigger one. I love those long tines. It’s always an adventure checking in on stuff after a couple months. Never know when your going to stumble upon a wasp nest etc. not fun. I hope you are recovering.
Unfortunately I can’t use any motorized vehicles on my lease. The couple times I have been able to drive out it has been a pleasure. Would definitely make things easier and more efficient. What can you do. Gotta play by the rules.

I dare say Jim might get the big one. Its there a lot and during daylight and he is set to be there opening weekend. Ill go down with him the weekend after. We regularly ride all over the property so they are used to it. Neighbors in the area also run gators and quads around.

I've never shot a buck with a bow. I passed on one 2 years ago that I thought was around 150 it was big. Someone was hunting on my neighbors property and they shot him a few days later. He looked young and looked like he might have gone a lot bigger so i figured id wait. This year anything of that caliber or even one of the other smaller bucks here will take a dirt nap.

We did move a few stands the property is just under 100 acres lots of draws and ridges down in that area from old glacier movement. We have around 20 stands for options of playing the wind ect. Absolutely beautiful property.
