Need help aging this deer. I’ve decided to give him at least 2 more years thinking he is in the 2-2.5 range.

    Any profile pics of him?

From that view, you can't well assess his hind end, neck, nor torso. You can see some brisket development, but I couldn't say, based on that pic, if he is 2.5 or 3.5.

Every deer in the fall is a half give or take some.....unless they are an extremely odd fall born fawn. Just fyi.

As for this picture, I firmly believe no credible guess can be given beyond saying not a yearling. No history, only one photo (front at that) makes it nearly impossible for someone to truly say.

Besides after a deer gets past that 3.5 year old fall - each deer truly can illustrate various body characteristics where it becomes a best guess thing.

Bone structure doesn't scream any older than 2.5 for me personally.

I would say 2.5 years as well. He ought to be a great buck in a couple of years if he stays alive. Or, he also be fantastic aged a week in a walk-in freezer at 34*F.

    Agree with Ty!

Fwiw QDMA has a weekly email with an 'age this deer' poll and a brief write up of the prior week's poll and 'expert' analysis. Really pretty good detail and explanations.

Definitely a young one. I think two more years is a good plan.

Looks like a stud 2 year old to me too. Could be something special if it’s lucky enough to live a few more years. Good luck this season
