I put a new depth finder on the fishing boat over 2 weeks ago, has not even been turned on yet. Weather permitting today. Unfortunately I will be pulling water skiers not fishing though.

Speaking of electronics, i put a new one on this spring. It has been great until today. Would not come off the setup page and only allowed me access to s limited number of things. Messed around with it but could not get it up and running. Then it would turn off and briefly come back on. Well at least to show the brand name.

We decided to head out and look at it once we set up.

That delay put us so far behind schedule that i setup about a mile short of where i normally do. The entire delay saved me a lot if grief and possible my boat.

Had we been on time and at the normal spot, we would have crossed a line of nets. Fir sure i would have lost what ever tackle i had out. I could have lost rods, holders and downriggers. People have sunk their boats because their gear did not break.

I have fished this location for 15 years and it is the first year a net had been in that location.

I wad lucky. So, i bought s power ball ticket for tonight. WTH. My good fortune may continue. Lol

This happened today at 1:07 pm.

Tossed my bass jig beside a likely looking tree and got one of those “oh my god” strikes.

I leaned forward and set the hook and the fight was on.

Never caught a flathead fefore but I believe they are quite a " predator" fish?
I've caught a couple bigger channels ( 18 -20) lbs and in a river current, they can put up a good battle!!

This one was back in the spring on a crappie jig and came in at 24 pounds. My buddy fought it a good ten minutes. Had I not witnessed it, I wouldn't have believed it. Cedar creek on Truman.

Just got back from a 12 Day camping road trip through a few state parks in Colorado, Yellowstone, and Badlands. I fly fished for the first time since my wife and I were dating.Had a few hits but my timing with hookset was off after years of not fly fishing. Got me wanting to keep the rod that I borrowed from a friend. We did an evening charter on Yellowstone Lake with the kids. My oldest managed to boat a Yellowstone Cuttthroat. We all hooked up, but regs in the park require barbless hooks so the kids lost most of them. Still great fun.

    Almost the same size.

The one I caught took about 6 minutes to get in the boat, but I was using a medium-heavy 7’ rod spooled with 14 pound lime.

Dad would limit me to 2 beers. Not bad for a 16 year old.

Dont hate. It was a different time.

Was doing some garage rearranging today and stumbled upon a pic from 20 yrs ago. Funny how some things never change. Further proof I'm a simple man. Lol
