I was just curious about what color flashlight/headlamp you guys use. I have always used just a regular headlamp, color never seemed to be a factor. One of my hunting buddies always uses red, saying you should use red or green when walking to and from your stand in the dark. Any thoughts?
I use green. I find I don't spook near as many animals with that. I often spook myself because I get so close to animals before I see them. And when they take off you may jump a little. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I prefer green on the walk to the stand, mainly because it provides just enough light to see in front of me. I may change to white if I need more distance or a bit more brightness. Prefer white light once in stand and getting things sorted out.
I use a green laser pointer to clear the area when I want to get out of my stand. They will run from it. Green flashlights dont effect them at all. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I use white, mostly on high beam. I’m wearing the light so I can see, and the better I can see the less noise I make. I personally haven’t found it to have an effect on the deer, most don’t blow the area out they just move away. Vehicle/deer accidents at night makes me think they aren’t bothered by white light. I use the white on the way in but am careful to keep it pointed down. Then I swap to the dim red as I climb so I dont have a beam flashing all over the place.
i use a white light and am careful to not shine it allover, my unscientific experience is the less commotion the better. Use white light green light red light they still know youre there... just be calm and get to your stand without banging into crap and stinking
I found this out about 6 years ago and have been promoting it since. I was just playing with new toys when I figured this out. I had red and green. You can shine the red everywhere and they don't see it. They can see the green laser beam and when it moves around them they just run. They hardly ever blow or snort as they run. I try to not use a light at all going in. I know my route well, but if it's a new moon/no moon I'll sometimes use one, pointed to the ground only. No matter what though, a deer knows a light bopping through the woods is associated with a human. Let's not kid ourselves.
I try not to use a light a lot. But i have gotten to the point of using just a white light on headlamp that I partially cover carrying it in my hand. I never walked up on a skunk but I walked down a trail with the green light and had a coyote 3ft from me off the edge of the trail. He must have thought I was a deer and he was ready for an ambush. Scared the hell out of both of us. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

I usually do not use a light. I maintain clean trails. Though when things are a blk. Hole out there I'll get out apen light and shine no more than a few steps in front of me. I turn it off several yrds before I get to set..
