Hey guys, I’m an avid bowhunter from Southwestern Minnesota. Like you all, I am getting excited for this upcoming season. I have been shooting at my target for two months, and I am starting to get bored of the same routine every time and want to start shooting a live animal. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do or try in order to get some excitement in my training?
Shoot from tree stands and ground blinds. Shoot varmints if legal. I kill a lot of pigs in the off-season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well when sitting in the turkey blind near food plots, crows are a frequent visitor. They are master grub diggers. So that would be a challenging option if allowed in your area.
Sounds like a good time to throw some Judo/blunt points on some arrows and go take care of the over abundance of squirrels probably located around your deer stand
Do you have any friends that bowhunt? Get together on a weekend/ weeknight and put a point system together as a competition. Those are always fun with friends.
A 3d target creates a lot of fun when shooting. My brother-in-law and I will set up a few and then take turns choosing where we shoot from, have to judge the yardage. After a couple shots we move the targets so the distance is unknown again and start over. You'd be amazed how well this sharpens yardage judging skills in short order. I've seen people make a tic-tac-toe board on their shooting bag. Also a dart board to play cricket on. Another idea is to fasten playing cards to a bag and shoot for the best poker hand.
Here in liberal NY, Im not even allowed to shoot targets in my yard. I live in Nassau County on Long Island!
Playing poker is fun. You only need one other player. Put up 25 cards 5x5 rows. Center row face down. Each player shoots 1 arrow then trades off. 1 arrow per row Feel free to play with yardage but I like 30
