Dudley has a great video on tying nocking points that keeps your D loop spread and also makes it easy to replace.

I'm trying the grizzly stick tapered shafts. They sell a test kit. I'm following the Ashby method. I'll be testing 2 different spine arrows with a Massai 200 gr. single bevel broad head. Total arrow weight 650gr. Shooting a Darton pro 3000 at 28.5 draw at 58lbs. the FOC should be close or over 20% Watch DR.Ed Ashby and Ranch fairy on you tube. Just ordered today so it will be a few days till I can test.

How did they turn out after the D-loop fix? I had some do that the other day, and I just had to turn the nock a quarter turn. I am tearing my build down and starting over, too.

Fixed the random missing. The d loop was actually moving at the top as well. Consistent accuracy also helped me notice a bad habit I had developed, was turning my elbow out too much. Been shooting much better which makes me enjoy shooting much more. For the arrows, I settled on 600 grains overall. Thump.

End of a long session. I was shooting 25 for some between pin practice, but this rounds out a long day of shooting at 30 yards. 600 grain zombie slayers and 540 grain victory xtorsions. I may need to bring pins up for the slayers. Victories stacked nicely. 21% foc slayers, 18.5 ish on the victories. 20200407_195358.jpeg

Ive used Gold Tip's in the 385gr to 430 Gr for 20+ years (over 90 deer in 33 yrs bowhunting) never lost a deer to lack of penetration, most have been full pass thru's or at least two holes, with a few exceptions ... now I'm at 430 grs using Wicked Trick and 63/64 lbs draw wt./297fps .. killed a few dozen deer and some over 200 lbs using Steelhead XL's and still got great penetration .. the main thing is tuning, be as precise as you can for proper arrow flight ... I'm lucky as I have a full 30" draw so arrow speed/momentum has never been a problem ... I understand the Ashby 'theory' but I dont buy into it ... I look for a medium weight arrow for my set up so I get a good combination of speed/ke/momentum .. right now I get 81lbs ke/.54 mo and 297 fps and a FOC of 10% ... more than enough with a Wicked Trick or Viper Trick for any deer/antelope that walks ... the only reason I'd go heavier is for Elk or Moose, then I'd go to the 450-475 gr range ..

I think I have my arrow set upsdialed in. Both are built off of 300 spine Black eagle Renegades. Arrow #1 is 610 grains with 150 grains of brass inserts behind the 56 grain half out with a 100 grain slick trick magnum. FOC is 20%. Arrow #2 is 605 grains with 75 grain brass insert behind the half out with a 165 Grain Zwickey No Mercy broadhead. This is a single bevel broadhead.

Pic #1 is arrow #2 nock deep in the block target.

    upload_2020-4-26_8-12-55.jpeg

Pic #2 14 inches of penetration and two inches deep into the backstop.

    upload_2020-4-26_8-20-32.jpeg

Pic #3 is a broadhead size comparison.

I have four fletch on all the arrows set up with the Slick tricks. Still trying to decide between the standard blazer fletch or four fletch for the Zwickey set up. I will probably end up going with four fletch on all the arrows. I think the arrows with the blazer vane three fletch are louder in flight than the lower profile four fletch.

I shoot #70 Bowtech Insanity and just finished shooting multiple gr field tips in 2 different spines of arrows to see what grouped best. Do yourself a favor and get Ranch Fairy test kit from Ethics archery or Sirius Archery offers it with their arrows. YouTube Ranch Fairy and watch for details. I shot Sirius Apollo 200 and 250 spine as well as Victory RIP TKO 250 and 300. Both 26” and all groups bare shaft (100-300 grain field tips with 110 gr inserts) at 20 yds were within 4” but the 200 gr on both stiffer spines grouped at 1.5” as did the 100 gr on Victory 300. Both are good arrows. The Sirius is thicker walled micro weave, both same diameter. Sirius weighs 638 gr total w fletchings 21% FOC. Victory RIP 553 with 25% FOC. Will shoot both again from 30 yd and fletch but 200 gr plus 110 insert was the best flying BH bottom line. Penetration is non-issue with this set up.

Final build: Gold Tip Hunter XT 300s with 50 grn inserts (insert tuned to broadhead), 100 grn broadhead, 3 fletch 2 degree left helical, Nockturnal nocks (nock and paper tuned). They come in at 514 grns. Next is rest tuning (walk back/french tune). Here is the fletch testing @ 20 yds. I tried diff fletch combos. IMG_1176.JPG IMG_1181.JPG IMG_1177.JPG

I found over the last month that the 300 spine arrows were a little weak with the longer single bevel head on the arrow. The original arrow length was 27.5” with the broadhead on it, it came out to just under 30” with a 26.5” draw. I was fine at 20 but started hitting right at 30 and missing the target at 40. I wasn’t having this issue with the arrows set up with the Slick Tricks. I ordered 250 spine arrows and had them cut shorter to 26”. The shorter arrow and stiffer spine seem to have corrected the problem. Picture is last nights grouping first time shooting the 250
Spine arrows at 40 yards. Total arrow weight is still 610 grains.

That's interesting. I have the Ser razor bh and have adjusted the front brass insert weights up and down between 500 and 600 grains to see if I can see a difference in groups and haven't seen anything bad throughout. I was worried about out running the spine on the 300's I'm shooting, but so far so good. Only thing I've noticed is the bh's hit lower than my fp's at 30 and out to 40. I'm assuming it is drag and you can hear those bad boys in flight pretty well. Wouldn't say they are loud or anything, but it is noticable. At least they don't whistle like Schwackers. Ha! I think you mentioned before, but what is the single bevel you're shooting?

It is a Zwickey No Mercy 165 grain broad head. I truly think it was the fact that this broad head is a little more than an inch longer than the Slick Tricks. Total arrow weight between the two arrows is between 605 and 610 grains. I think the fact that the weight was spread out just a little longer with the Zwickey broad heads made the arrow long enough that the 300 spine was a touch weak. It was not an issue shooting Slick Tricks or field points. I built an arrow saw and I am going to cut down a couple of the 27.5" 300 spine arrows to 26" and see if that corrects the issue with the 300 spine arrows so I can hunt with them. If not, the 300 spine arrows will become my practice arrows and I will hunt with the 250s when I want to shoot the single bevel. I am going to leave a couple 300s set up to shoot the Slick Tricks so I can carry those as well.
