In the last couple years I've started putting out mineral sites every winter and spring to give a boost to the deer in our area. I've got to say I think it sure has made a difference this year. What are you guys seeing as far as antler growth and overall health this time of the year? Hoping theres still some more growth to be had but I'm pleased so far.
Looks like some nice ones. Minerals are great for getting photos in the summer. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Nice! We can't do that here, but I know a lot of farms here use micro and macro nutrients on their crops. One farmer is a dealer for it.
That's what I was wondering, how long is the growing period for antlers? August 1st about full growth?
8/1 to 8/15. Give or take then the grow hard til 9-1 to 9-15 ish. Nothing set in stone but close to those dates
All varies from buck to buck but the accepted normal range in our area (Hoosier as well) is around that first week or so of August the blood flow will start dropping and the hardening process begins. Some will shed their velvet as early as late August, others nearly till October in some rare cases.
We have been in a severe drought this year. I have 10 cameras up on 350 acres and every buck except one that I've got pictures of so far is just now branching off at the brow tines. It's not looking good this year in my opinion. Im hoping a nice buck might wander by on my bear trip to PA in OCT
Darn that's a bummer! Good lookin deer. Looks like a belly rupture or something. Sent from my SM-A505U using Tapatalk
Must have some genetics running through the farm. Got a couple twin bucks that have antlers almost touching. Decent mass, tall but not past the ears. Very unique looking. Sent from my SM-A505U using Tapatalk
