I need quick advise. Hubby plowed the other day which caused A 300 ft ice rink. Temps didn't rise to melt it so we had to lay down a few hundred pounds of salt. Didn't we get An 1-2 last night. Now there is loose ice under the snow and a deep freeze 3 degrees tonight is setting in. Problem leave it be or scrape off snow that will still have salt in it. We have a possible 3-5 more snow on the way. I'll be hand shoveling this next run. I hate when he has to plow it always causes an icy mess stone dirt drive
That's what I was thinking. just afraid while I'm gone Sat. Sunday grandson sitting he'll get the tractor our again...lol
Does the grit actually melt the ice? Were talking 2 inches of ice. It was a heavy wet snow that packed tight. This area is strange, it even happened on the main road in wet snows. Gets so icy there has been times we can't get up the hill. I've seen the plow truck backing up the hill salting as they went because going down the hill was too dangerous.
Ya the town adds sand to their salt mix.. I think to keep the salt from bouncing off the side of road. We avoid having to use salt but this one was pretty bad. I have a chalk board easel I put out for deliveries .. BEWARE ICY !
I have those spikes lol. I don’t really use them much. I have a plowing business in western pa. We are getting hit now. I use salt, calcium chloride, and beet juice for the folks that are of the nervous about Fido type. No sand used around here. Keep it upright Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have to use them just to hike. Even in snow I have to go down hill side stepping . Piling snow along the side of my foot and getting the cleats to grab a bit. Then in spring they help in the mud. It is really wet around here. You'd think being on the side of a steep hill would be dry ...not here. Even in the summer, between moss and sweating rocks I have to be very careful ,so strange. Especially the rocks..they sweat profusely.
That beet juice is some nasty stuff but works pretty good. Make sure to wash it off your car. We have an American crystal sugar factor 20 miles from here so the county gets it let’s say pretty much free. Quick question do the snowplows in your area bury everyone in they’re driveways
Yes and I had to shovel to get out today. Heavy wet snow. On our drive across the street they really drop it. It's the up hill side of road and past the mail box they pull out a bit for mail box and when coming back in, end up dropping way more on that drive. I actually shovel ten yards up on the approach side on the road. Shoveling back the snow they may push into the drive , mail box and drive across street...it works.
our city uses a road grader and just pushes all the snow towards the norm and absolutely buries the end of the driveway. It usually leaves a good three foot high 3-4 foot wide pile of snow all the across the bottom of the driveway. It’s so frustrating shoveling the driveway and right when you finish the plow comes and just buries it with hard pack snow and ice from the streets
I want to scoop it up with our pay loader into our tri axle and dump it in the driveway of the city coordinator
