I haven't actually gotten a scouting trip in, but here on the back 40 I've been putting out corn by a camera hoping to spot the buck I shot in the shoulder and so far he's a no show. Got me some chest waders coming in the mail. They will help me cross those 3 foot deep creeks to get to places no one else goes.

I primarily hunt Bell Slough, Camp Robinson SUA, and Wattensaw. I drew the Maumelle permit this year and have hunted it once. I also have permits for the Hot Springs Village Urban hunt. My biggest challenge is having time. I have young kids, so I do not hunt as much as I used.
I was going to head in deep to another spot but my son wanted to go for the first time in a long time so I kept it short and went to a close spot. I'm actually surprised by how many deer tracks I found on this heavily hunted ground. Best find of the day was a single huge white oak by the river. It was the only white oak I saw for an hour scouting the river bottom. Guaranteed if it drops acorns it will be a magnet. Like father like son...getting in the water like an idiot to find a trail.
I have every intention of getting out this late winter. My problem is I don't seem to know how to get in to the NYSDEC maps. To where I can understand best entrances. They don't normally maintain a parking area in remote sites and I drive a car. Too cheap to by a mapping app. so I dont get lost. Though in the snow if that happened...I'd deserve it..lol

Many free gps mapping apps. One I have is a one time fee of $14 for the full app. Back Country Navigator. Makes your life a lot easier when scouting and hunting dozens of big woods spots.
Need some opinions here guys, just looked through my camera that I had out all season, maybe a total of 15-20 daylight videos, regularly I would probably not come back to that spot the next year but the last day of the season I saw 8 different deer from that stand. The big runway and scrapes are about 75-100 yards SW of where I had this camera and my stand. The run is coming down into a creek bed that funnels down to a cut corn field and thick power line. Do you guys think with such a small number of daylight pictures I’m in the wrong area all together or do you think I’m just on the wrong trail and moving 100 yards would make a big difference? If the deer sign is there and you saw those deer the last day of season, then I would continue to hunt that area. 100 yards can make a big difference and many times on those open runways, those scrapes and sign are left at night. 100 yds closer to the action could change everything.
Why not split the difference, leave the stand and move the camera to the heavier trail. Or double down on cameras and have one on each. Heavy trails are utilized for a reason, just have to figure out where on that trail to set up for the legal shooting hours. Might have to move the 80 yards one direction but 200 yards in another to cut them off. Thinking logically and we all know that's the opposite of what happens Oct. to Feb.
Alright. I put on about 8 miles yesterday. Saw a lot of new country and got more detail about some of the areas I thought I knew! Move the 100 yards with the camera during the offseason. It sounds like you are just off the major travel corridor.

Had a good morning. I went to land I scouted last year and it was loaded with bucks! I always had this property in my mind this past season, but never got a chance to hunt it. So want to go back in to see if it's just as good. Not much deer sign. The big difference was it's over a 20 degrees temp differences this year from last. So the deer aren't stacked up in there. Found quite a few doe beds and maybe 20 or so fresh scrapes that were still being hit. But nothing screamed big buck like last year. Picked up 1 old shed and found a 2 1/2 old dead buck.
