Our 16 mo. Old grandson goes in for surgery on Thursday. He has to have drain tubes put in both ears. Chronic ear infections. So all good thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks

    Prayers sent.

Our daughter had tubes put in at that age and did wonderfully. She was talking clearer immediately after the procedure. We assume because she could hear better. Hopefully this is a smooth procedure for your grandson as well.

    Hope all goes well!

My daughter had them put in last year. She had bad ear infections all the time, back to back and was hard to get rid of. We got tubes put in both ears and she is doing great! Don't think she has has a ear infection since. It's a very quick procedure, but just scary having to put a kid under.

Very scary for a parent. They wake up not knowing were they are and start screaming at the top of there lungs. Just have mom close by and ready to go in and comfort them. Just reassure everything will be ok. Takes about 10 minutes to get them to settle down. Then after that my girls were back to normal like nothing happen. I think it's worse on the parents then it is on the kids. Just hard sight yo see as a parent.

Yep being a parent is scary! I had more than a few heart in throat moments with both mine. Daughter had to go in for cancer testing at his age. Every place I touched her to pic her up I left finger tip bruises. They found Von Willebrand disease. No cure but managable. Going in for blood tests at the children's cancer center was ...well it stays with ya and made me count our many, many blessings.

Thanks for the request. This is one of the things of being a parent.
Out daughter just missed having them by two weeks- no more infections. Son had three sets of tubes. Used to buy amoxicillin in pint bottles for him.

I got them when I was young. Helped greatly and only had to have one set. I was old enough that I remember coming out of anesthesia and immediately throwing up, but other than that I was fine after I left the hospital. I was upset after waking up in a strange room plus throwing up, but was fine after my parents were let into the room with me. I had my adenoids taken out at the same time. Lots of drainage from my ears while sleeping for a while. It will be much better for him not having ear infections and ear aches all the time. Keeping them on a mild over the counter allergy medicine helps to keep them "dried out" and prevent ear infections too. Prayers.

Not rough at all. More scary for mom and dad than her. She was a bit tentative at first but was a real trooper. Once we were back in with her she was fine. Talking up a storm and hasn’t quit since (she’s 36 now). First thing she wanted to do is go have “smiley face pancakes” at IHOP. It really was a simple procedure. Well worth the stress of going through it. No more ear infection or antibiotics. She could hear much better than before. The tubes just fell out on their own after a couple years. We found one in her crib 2 years later.
I assume you are nervous for your Grandson but it really is a simple procedure. Still praying it’s as easy for him and you as it was for us.

Prayers sent. Hope the ear infections go away after the procedure. I hate when little ones are hurting
