What can ya do if anything to preserve your fletching glue? Seems like my glue stiffens up and is unusable stuff is a bit expensive. I tried running the bottle under hot water but it didnt have any effect. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not sure what glue you are using. I'm speculating it's a super glue. I use Fletchtite Platinum and haven't had any issues with it drying in the tube. Works great with Blazers on the Easton Axis. That stuff was only $8 Canadian.
Thank You very much why cant we just use super glue is it maybe the same just in different bottles and they charge us more Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
But now that ya mention it i never did have problems with the tube type. One of the ones i just threw out was e st on wasnt sure if i should write the name Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I had a bottle of Goldtip insert glue go bad in a short amount of time after it was opened. I bought some more and noticed on the package that it said it should be put in the fridge after being opened. I put it in double Ziploc bags and in the fridge, so far so good.
I use locktite gel control super glue. 1 or 2 drops on the vane, then I spread it with a tooth pick. Never had one come loose, and a bottle is only $5.00
Stubert,I used some and the vanes didn't stick. I think I did something wrong as I used it before with not problems. I checked and there basically tow kinds of super glue (CA)- ethyl and methyl. A chemical engineer said the difference in the CA glues I use for woodworking is viscosity, no difference in the glue itself. Anyone want to wade in here?
I clean the shaft with acetone first before gluing them on, I am using 2" blazers with as much helical as I can get. I am using a Bitzenburger.
I personally am going back to Fletchtite Platinum. Threw away 2 bottles of Easton super glue last night. I’ve had Platinum last for a year or better at half the price. Only shoot FMJs now, so should work fine.
Making sure the arrow is cleaned and prepped correctly is much more important than the adhesive you use IME. I use AAE Max Bond and have had great success with it.
Fletchtite Platinum will literally last until the tube is empty. I just used the last of a tube I had that was close to two years old. Just make sure you cap it and clean the dispenser out when done.
I had AAE Max Bond and it dried up after only using it a few times. Also had Loctite Gel, dried up. I recently fixed about three dozen of arrows with HF glue, three tubes for $1.99. I make sure I cleaned the tip with acetone before screwing on the cap.
I’ve used acetone on carbon shafts since they first came out. A small amount on a paper towel, cleans a arrow shaft right up. Figured I better add arrow to that line knowing some of the readers.
Thanks. I have some carbon arrows that will eventually need new vanes. When I built custom fishing rods, acetone on a graphite blank was a no-no. Some rod builders wouldn't even have it in the building area in case they got the wrong can. DNA or 91% rubbing alcohol was the rule.
