Some students came to my room and asked if I saw the doe and a "definite shooter"?
Here is a pic of 2 small bucks...I think they are looking for that doe. Just beyond the trees is a lake.

    I love my view.

Saddle, you want a saddle, cut 15 to 20lbs of the load you are carrying in. Makes those long walks way easier. Then invest in a good frame pack to carry the sticks and deer out when you get one.

I have sad news to report...yesterday, I climbed down and started making my rounds changing cards in cameras. As I'm driving up the road next to the field I hunt, I see a couple deer up top. I park and sneak using the wind to cover my sound...12 pack in now 50 yards from me, wind in my favor. He starts moving a little unaware I'm there, and I sneak in a little closer, he has his butt to me, no shot...finally he starts sniffing a licking branch broadside...I hit him arrow goes right through like it never hit anything, not a lot of sound, just right through, I saw fur come off him...I hit him high.
No arrow...no blood. I walked for 3.5 hours with another guy grid searching and found nothing.
I don't believe in the "void" but I believe there may be a no-go zone. I really hope hes still alive, I moved some cameras to see if he is still around. I'm at a loss, I had him dead to rights.
See picture and tell me what you think.

No man's land, the void, non lethal spot... That deer may very well survive.

    Too funny!
I guess some people don’t know how venison gets into the freezer.

Good morning everyone! Really crappy weather here today, that's why I'm not back to work. Yesterday I was having trouble with the App, so I didn't bother trying to post often at all. It kept freezing up on me! I ended up seeing a total of 5 deer, which actually is pretty good in my woods! The first one was a lone doe at 7:05AM, out too far. Then around 9:30AM I saw 3 doe, a mom and two yearlings that I think I saw a few days ago. They just browsed out of range and disappeared.

Then around 10:45AM, while I was busy posting on LFTS about the friggen gnats, I hear a snort! I look over to where the noise came from and it's the doe from the same group of three standing in the same exact spot as earlier. Apparently they had just bedded right there when I thought they "disappeared", and they started feeding again. The App got me busted! This incident is exactly why I'm not big at all on playing with my phone while on stand.:poke:Lesson learned, the hard way. Then around 4:00PM I saw another lone deer walking, but way out of range. No head gear on that deer either. It was a good day in the woods though, but I'm a little bummed that I didn't see a buck.

Over all though, I've had a pretty exciting season so far. I DID get a shot at my target buck, only to mess that up with a poor shot/choice. I also had a perfect 10yrd broadside opportunity at a basket 8pt, which I decided to let go and just take video of. A tornado came through my woods that did a lot of serious damage, but didn't damage my trail cams! And on one of them, I get another pic of my target buck, who appears to be no worse for wear from my previous encounter with him! That right there has made my season! It's so nice knowing the outcome of my encounter with that buck. It's the NOT knowing that gnaws at us when we're unable to recover a buck, or any deer for that matter. Good luck out there today folks, and be careful!

Her's a few pics of the tornado damage. The last pic is of a leaning walnut tree, the one I shot at my target buck from. Needless to say, I won't be able to hunt from it anymore.

So I got all my cold-weather gear packed for tomorrow, strapped to my summit viper. It looks like I’m going to climb Mount Everest!!
Lows around 10 degrees, high of 26, with a 15 mph wind. A few inches of snow on the ground.

i’ll be wearing base layer of thermals, top and bottom, my Whitetail mountain hunter bibs, heated vest, fleece jacket, and the arctic shield body suit over all of that. Everything is strategically packed, I did two test run-throughs.

I don’t plan on moving spots once I get set up tomorrow. So I’m just trying to figure out what would be the best spot with the given conditions.

my dad won’t be going out, too damn cold he said. Which I agree I really don’t want him out in those conditions. So of course he wants me to hunt his spot, he’s found a few massive scrapes and several large rubs. I told him no way that’s your buck. He said he treats hunting like how he treats fishing, it’s a team sport....

I told him I appreciate it, but no offense, I want to do it my way and earn it.

Definitely above the spine and hit nothing but meat there. No doubt about it he is alive and chasing does while we speak. He won't miss a beat and will heal incredibly fast.

Above the spine and through back strap. There is no "void" below the spine.

Dude, just hunt his spot if he wants you to. You already have earned several times over.

I agree, hunt it and try to learn something new about it to apply in the future.

It's your dad man, he's wanting you to get a deer as much, or even more than you are wanting him to get one, or even yourself.

Personally I think if he offered, you should do it. He wants you to get a deer as much as you do. And I'm sure it would make him very happy if you came up successful in his spot. Do it!
