I've had that happen before, frustrating after walking so far, but that's public land hunting. I just go 200yds closer to where I thi k the deer are coming from.

Already just had 2 bucks come out. Spike and what looks like a shooter! The bigger one chased of the spike, so I may have a hot doe in here. 40 yards was the closest they got.

Sat till 1pm then the rain and fog started rolling in. Saw a basket 8 and a really nice buck that headed the opposite way. They win today

Oh yeah! It's a tall 9 pt it looks like. He's pissed at that other deer. He's 50 yards completely up wind right now.

I agree. Just makes it more miserable to sit. Actually the most action I've seen the past 3 weeks was on one of the warmest days of that period.

The thing that puzzles me is I haven't seen one bit of chasing. Seems really strange. The bucks I have seen haven't seemed frantic like they usually are during the rut. They're just walking around

Alright I'm thawing out my gear and grabbing some food. New intel from my cameras say I was at least partially right about the buck I'm after, but that was Friday. Noooo telling where he is now. If he is out cruising for the next hot doe this evening I have a good spot in mind to get on him. Headed back out right after this THP video is done and my neck gaiter dries. Still snowing and windy.

Congrats Slugger! Same to anybody else I may have missed.

Can't remember the exact to it, but Alsheimer always predicted the rut based on the 2nd full moon after the autumn equinox. Tomorrow would be that moon, if he were correct it would mean a late rut and the best is yet to come as it was always I think the 2 weeks after the full moon.

After chasing that spike out. He headed right back to the spot he came out of.

So just checked my toe warmers from this morning. Left foot is hot and has puffed up(supposed to generate/release their own oxygen). The right one is flat and dead cold. Wish they put some sort of coding on these things, had some left over from about 2-3 years ago and had another one fail earlier in my rutcation but wasn't as cold.

I placed one and top and one on bottom of my toes, but I used the same package for each foot. May need to start one package on bottom of each foot and the other on top that way I'll only have 50% failure if it happens.

I was back in Wisconsin this weekend. Crazy how slow the weekend was after last weekend. The 3 biggest bucks we saw last weekend were not chasing. The pressure, temp, and time of year all lined up - thought mt brother would have had incredible encounters.

These types of hunting situations have me seriously considering a sticks and hang on or sticks/saddle. If I were 30 yards more into the swamp I think Id be fully in the game. We shall see.
